Exceptionally good terrace bar.
Pros:

The terrace bar is a hidden gem in Torquay the views are amazing out towards Torquay harbour. Staff are super friendly and really helpful. A special mention to Lilli who really is exceptional and a credit to the bar.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed at
Pros:

There has been enough said on here about the decor and how tired the hotel accommodations is, I agree, I will add that the furniture is uncomfortable to sit and sleep on. The twin beds in the room we stayed in were the most uncomfortable we have ever slept in. The pillows are like sand bags!
The staff. Some are great and have customers service skills. There are more who have none of the soft skills required to provide any kind of customer service.
The photo was taken of our beds after we had returned after being out for the day. Our room had been cleaned, towels changed, tea/coffee replenished. We both had been sleeping on top of the bed as it was so hot in the recent heatwave. The pillows were clearly not worthy of being straightened. Not the worse thing in the world but it is an example of the lack of detail the staff in this hotel are allowed to get away with by their employers.
I would not recommend this hotel. I would however recommend visiting this area and will come again but not to this Fawlty Tower of a hotel.

Wouldn't Stay Anywhere Else.
Pros:

We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Torquay. We've been coming here since 2020 and this is our second visit of the year with another 2 already booked, one later this year and one next July! The staff are very welcoming, the food is delicious and the views are wonderful. The hotel is situated right by the beach and you can just sit in the grounds watching the boats go by with your favourite tipple! We enjoy the 20 minute walk into the town but there is a bus stop close by which will take you there or to most places in the area if you prefer.
Seaview rooms are recommended and all the rooms are cleaned and tidied daily. Car parking is free for hotel guests and there is normally enough space to park.

Fabulous location great food and staff
Pros:

Positive
A superb location overlooking the sea. Our cases were taken to our room on arrival. Fabulous terrace area overlooking the sea with good furniture and umbrellas. The staff were lovely, very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was buffet style hot and cold with plenty of choice. The evening meals were waiter service and the 3 course meal was changed every night. The food was excellent. All above first class.

Negative
The bedrooms and general areas were in need of refurbishment. Threadbare stair carpets and bedrooms in need.of an overhaul. The lift antiquated. The saving grace is the positives outweighed the negatives. With the refurbishment it could be 5 star.
A fabulous location with great staff and food. Just have to look past the tired decor.

Avoid this Hotel
Pros:

Excellent location but it goes rapidly downhill once you step inside the hotel. Staff welcoming & do their best but sadly the whole Hotel needs a massive refurb. Being on the seafront the view from indoors could be amazing but sadly the dirty windows preclude this. The bedrooms are extremely dated with uncomfortable beds; tatty, chipped & broken furnishings & the bathroom is horrendous with broken tiles, mouldy walls & a mishmash bathroom suite, corroded taps & little to no pressure from the shower (which hovers between tepid & cold). The best bit was the outside terrace which is open to all so you don't need to be a guest to use it. We were lucky to have good weather during our stay so spent very little time at the Hotel. We feel that the Hotel owners should not be allowed to get away with offering such sub standard accomodation & certainly not at the prices they charge. We paid a visit to the 'sister' Hotel down the road but found this to be equally as bad, if not worse as even the staff there were less than attentive. Send in the Hotel Inspector!!

Windows could do with a clean
Pros:

Went for a drink in the bar. Service and drinks excellent. But the fantastic view is spoilt by very dirty windows @ inside and out. The bar area looks like it comes from the 70's but pleasant enough.

A lovely Sunday Lunch!
Pros:

We’ve just had another lovely 3 course lunch and I thought I’d write a short review. The friendly service at this hotel with Maria on the bar and our waiter Rhys today made the experience all the better. The food was excellent and we really enjoy the relaxed surroundings. A great place to spend a Sunday afternoon!

Traditional Values!
Pros:

The Livermead Cliff is a traditional English hotel. There is no loud music, or flashing lights, however, it is furnished in a tasteful and comfortable way. If you prefer a throbbing jukebox and plenty of juvenile company, look elsewhere!

On the other hand, if you are interested in amazing sea views, super cuisine, a large car park and courteous staff, you may be in the right hotel.

This is an old building, and although well presented and comfortable, it is not one of the trendy ‘new build’ hotels. We must have all been to them, where staff sometimes appear bored and unhelpful!

Staff here have a pleasant rapport with guests, and I am sure that many visitors who appreciate the above hotel qualities will return year after year (as do I).

Good for a short break
Pros:

Single room for 2 nights. Was bigger than i expected. Maid servicing the room every day. Very clean. No problem with shower pressure. Shower powerful. I would stay again. But I would request a room at the back. I'm not used to road traffic noise. So sleepless night. Also do staff really need to empty bottles into the bins at 2am!. Right outside my window.( Window was closed ).Handy for bus stops and railway station. Didn't have any meals

Exceptional Staff
Pros:

Stayed at the Livermead Cliff Hotel just for one night as part of a Coach holiday package. Whilst the decor is a little faded and tired in places, the Warm Welcome we were given made the stay memorable. The staff are outstanding, friendly, professional and accommodating. If you are looking for a corporate generic sort of hotel, this is not it. Livermead Cliff Hotel instead offers a more old fashioned experience of personal touches, with the restaurant decked out in starched table cloths and service service style evening meals.
The evening meal was excellent. The staff were very understanding and accommodating of my dietary requirements. Portions were generous. The rooms were clean with comfortable beds and amenities. Areas do need refurbishing but if you look past that there are many other positives to enjoy. This is the first time in all my travels that as we were departing the main staff all came and waved our coach off.

I didn’t want to spend any time in my room
Pros:

I booked a single room as the website said it was perfect for single travelers.
The room is very small
En-suite is tiny, probably 8x3
Adequate with decent shower pressure but the water changes temperature from tepid to cold, I’m guessing the water is subject to how many guests are using it at the time.
The single bed was old with a few lumps and was pushed up against the wall
I didn’t think I’d sleep well but I had a decent nights sleep
The room is a little depressing and could really benefit from remodelling
The room is approximately 14x8 maybe slightly bigger
I wished I’d opted for a larger room as I honestly don’t want to spend time in it I did ask but there was nothing available until my last night as I think there was a blue rinse brigade conference staying judging by the dining hall at 8 am
Breakfast was decent, a saving grace.
The lift is an experience, a throwback in time. That too was small but fun
I wouldn’t book to stay here again, definitely not in a single room.
Staff were fantastic, I must say that to their credit

Another welcoming 4 day stay.
Pros:

Booked a great value 3 night stay in a twin sea view room BB, £245 for 2 people.
Breakfast was excellent and so much choice. They have a fantastic offer on for evening meals in the restaurant, buy one get one free as well.
Dinners were excellent.
Also a loyalty card for spending in the bar for drinks and food.
Non residents welcome in the bar and restaurant.

Whats not to like
Pros:

Travelled here on a coach holiday for the New Year. Slight hiatus on arrival over room booking but staff quickly solved it and the rest of the stay can only be described as excellent. Food and service here are well above 3 star level. Tables laid with linen cloths and napkins, choice of starters mains and deserts, excellent buffet breakfast. Spotlessly clean rooms with excellent house keeping. New year festivities were great, comical entertainer, haggis piped in and addressed in full scottish style. So good we have already rebooked with the coach company for December 2026. Hotel conveniently placed on a bus route into town, though if your mob ile its an easy walk as well. Not far fron Railway station and under a mile to centre of town.

Excellent venue for a large private function
Pros:

We attended a Christmas party night with South Devon Accommodation Group friends last night.
The private function room with separate bar and loos was perfect for our gathering. Great DJ too.
The food was a good standard, served hot and each table served at the same time so no waiting for others to be served.
The staff were excellent and really accommodating, even coping with a food ordering mix up.
Highly recommended and I think it would be difficult to find a venue better suited for a private function.
Thank you 🙏

Tried with lovely views
Pros:

Hotel is in a beautiful location if you have sea view. Some rooms open to a communal balcony.
Unfortunately the rooms are dated, bed was uncomfortable, carpet was tired (and stained)as was the bathroom. We had I tally been given a family room, we declined to use it, it was cold, uninviting, the wardrobe was dirty.
The receptionist helped and moved us to a double room straight away.
We went to the sister hotel in search of the pool and a drink. This hotel was equally as tied, the pool was closed, which after viewing it was a blessing.
This could be a great hotel with a bit of time and effort.
However not one I feel I would revisit
Shame we were looking forward to the family break together.
