This is a very quaint historic hotel extremely close to the center of Sintra. However, being historic you will find the bathrooms smaller than usual with not the most modern plumbing (you will not be taking hot showers). The restaurant food is just okay as we had better food in town. However the staff is lovely and make your stay enjoyable. Our expectation is we could find nicer in the same vicinity.
Ubicación, singularidad, amabilidad servicio
Lovely hotel, well
Located with great front desk
Staff
Well located
No hot water during stay.Toilet didnt flush.Food poor/cold but good service in restaurant.Terrible service elsewhere in hotel (reception)
Lovely hotel in a great location. The room was well-worn and in need of refurbishing. The paint was was stained on the closet doors. The plug in the bathroom was for shavers only meaning the hair dryer had to be used in the hallway with no mirror or counter. The water was tepid and the bathtub was chipping and had permanent ugly stains. Lastly, the toilet seat was broken. Hotel was not as expected for a 5 star hotel. Disappointing.
Poor service, food, amenities. The reception desk was hopeless for requests. The hot water had been broken for 3 weeks. No management available to complain to. Cold scrambled eggs for breakfast, foul coffee, low quality menu. Staff unresponsive. I was given 7 euros off two cups of tea as compensation. I paid £700 for my room for two nights two months ago. DO NOT GO THERE
Very friendly and helpful staff (especially the trainees). The hotel is in an amazing location, the center of the Sintra historical center.
If you drive there, call ahead and plan accordingly. Entry into town is controlled (police, QR code) and parking is limited.
I had an amazing room but unfortunately there was construction in the next room that went on till after 7pm. Also, do not eat in the hotel restaurant, the food was absolutely terrible and expensive. (Vegetables was cold in the middle and the fish was boiled and bland. Not edible at all - I was so concerned I'll get sick if I ate more than a few bites.)
Location and the staff.
Nothing.
El alojamiento es estupendo.
Parece transportarnos a otra época.
Las habitaciones son una maravilla.
Buen desayuno y el personal encantador.
If you have ever wanted to experience the part of a traveling nobleman from
A Hugo novel, or the elegant heroine in a Jane Austin story off visiting her cousins in Sintra… then you absolutely must stay at Lawrence’s Hotel when you are there. The entire town is pure art and architecture and history and Lawrence’s is like walking through a time portal and suddenly the world outside is gone and you have arrived.
The entire staff were courteous and accommodating, they thoughtfully gave us the “Cynthia” room, in honor of my name. A beautifully decorated room that was also near Lord Byron’s room, alas him being one of my most favorite poets. I was elated! 🤗
Each of the sixteen rooms are thoughtfully named and decorated in honor of artists, poets, and others who have frequented the hotel. Such a terrific idea! The hotel is literally a time capsule filled with rich brown leather sofas, heavy wooden dressers and impressive decore that reminds you how many centuries now in this place. So warm and cozy. I could imagine long nights of intellectual conversations that been had there by the fireplace.
There is a wonderful restaurant that serves an amazing breakfast and everything we had was delicious. There is a small outside terrace near the street and also a terrace off of the restaurant but it was too cold while we were there to venture outside to see the gardens.
I would definitely recommend having the garage space covered if you are driving as there is little room for parking nearby. All of the staff was courteous and helpful but especially for us was Amanda and Hugo. We hope to return soon.
We feel so lucky to have landed at Lawernce’s Hotel. Amanda at the front desk is a rock star! So warm and welcoming and ready with lots of great suggestions for enjoying Sintra. Our room was beautiful. It had a Juliet balcony with a view of the city and a waterfall. It felt like we landed in a fairytale. The location is perfect, walkable to downtown and several sights. Loved this place.
The oldest hotel in both Portugal and Spain. Incredibly wonderful property with a view of the valley. Staff super nice. Excellent breakfast with great wait service. Iris was a gem and gave great recommendations for all over Portugal. Rui at the front desk just delightful and helped however needed. And the best part the hotel is located in the perfect part of Sintra, between three palaces. Can't recommend this hotel more highly.
This is a gem of a hotel in Sintra and a perfect location for visiting all that Sintra has to offer.
It is situated about five minutes walk from the National palace in the historic centre of Sintra.
We stayed in a Superior Double room, which was very comfortable. There was a big double bed, furnished to a good standard and we had a balcony overlooking the valley.
At breakfast, there was a good choice ranging from cereals, bread, rolls, meats, cheeses and fresh fruit. There was also bacon, scrambled eggs and cooked mushrooms.
I would highly recommend dinner in the hotel's restaurant. The quality of the food was superb and it was amongst the best I have eaten in a long time. The Sea Bass with Lime Risotto was excellent.
If you want to experience the true Sintra, I would recommend staying in the historic Lawrences Hotel. I don't think you will be disappointed.
