Expensive for what you get ....it should be made very clear there is no air con, only a small fan In the room which seems to be ridiculous.and dangerous with current temperatures. Out dated small room and bathroom. Staff were friendly ..location was good ..however will not be returning ..found the room quite claustrophobic as very small and very hot.
At the time of writing this, I fly back to the uk tomorrow. What can I say. Iâve been here for 9 days as a solo traveller. Never been to Bologna or even Italy. This was an absolutely amazing experience. The hotel staff are so friendly and nice. Breakfast staff are amazing. Reception staff nothing is too much. My room was basic, not even a kettle, which might have been nice to wake up with a coffee, but I didnât mind and you get used to it. I had breakfast included and food was nice. And I just going back for more. Well worth a stay 10/10 and a massive thank you for making my stay amazing. The hotel is situated so close to the square. Itâs literally up a small alley. Cross the main road and you there
Hotel Palace Bologna deserves its name; it has a large and very nice old style lobby, and a large number of rooms. Mine was perfect for a solo traveller, with a nice desk and very functional bathroom, even if the plumbing was a bit old style. Also I could look out over the roofs of the city, which is enjoyable, and even though it was located under the roof, the airconditiong kept the temperature right where I wanted it. The corridors may be a bit labyrinthic, and the stairs to the 5th floor elusive (of course I used the elevator most of the time, but some times you don't want to wait), but that was part of the charm of the place. Breakfast was plentiful and featured a lot of diversity, I especially enjoyed the pancakes, but you could have cereals with milk or with a variety of vegetal substitutes, several kinds of croissant, eggs and bacon, Italian pastries (that were different every day), and of course a range of hot and cold drinks.
Where to start?! No air-conditioning and it was 95° outside. Thankfully, we did have a fan. We could hear all of the street noise and festivities at a local restaurant until we hours. Extremely small bathroom. Beds were OK. Room was a decent size.
The lobby was very dated, with furniture that needed to be replaced. No amenities were included. The water was available for $ through a vending machine. Breakfast was supplied and was adequate.
Fire alarm went off at least 3 times at 5 AM with no instructions from hotel staff. Other guests who had gone downstairs, came back up the stairs to tell us everything was OK.
Positives include its proximity to Piazza Maggiore and historic section of the city, and right next-door to a wonderful family owned pizzeria/restaurant.
Dated Hotel. Nice accomodations though. Staff was helpful and professional. Location was in the midst of everything. Close to the train station and restaurants. Food was great and wide variety at the breakfast buffet.
The hotel is very centrally located with less than 30min walk from Bologna's Central Station and 5mins from Piazza Maggiore. My 3 start rating reflects the hotel's actual star rating. The main detractor being the aged, worn out feel & ambience, both within the room we were assigned, as well as in the lobby and common areas. Our room also lacked some basic maintenance. Breakfast on offer was varied and of good fare.
People have an unreasonable expectation of what theyâre supposed to get sometimes. They come to a 3 star hotel like this one and expect 5 star luxury then put negative reviews when they donât get it.
This is a 3 star hotel and itâs a nice 3 star hotel. The room is big and spacious with plenty of room to hang your clothes, staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was varied with plenty of options and good quality.
And the location is perfect, youâre literally a 5 minute walk from the centre where everything is.
So Iâm giving this 5 stars not because itâs a 5 star hotel but as far as a 3 star hotel goes, this is 5 stars.
Ignore the negative reviews it really is a pleasant hotel unless you have an inflated opinion of what you think you deserve from a 3 star hotel.
We booked the best room, the junior suite, and were shocked and disappointed with what we found. The room is in terrible condition and does not present in person as it does online. The room is being falsely represented online, it desperately needs a complete renovation. Upon entering the room we were as assaulted with a strong smell of sewer gas coming from the bathroom. We could feel the inner springs in the old and brutally hard mattresses. The bedding was stained and the bed covers were worn and frayed. The blankets were absolutely disgusting. Many pieces of furniture were broken, the carpeting had numerous stains and was curling up at the edges providing a tripping hazard. BEWARE! This hotel is falsely presenting itself on Hotels.com
Good enough basic hotel in the centre of Bologna.
Basic room with 2 comfy single bed.
Room was nice and hot.
Basic toilet with shower which was okay.
Good choices for breakfast.
Friendly staff.
24 hour reception.
This is a great hotel right in the heart of Bologna, only a short walk to Piazza Maggiore and the main things to see in Bologna. Short walk from the train station as well. Reception staff very helpful and friendly.
The basic room is dirty and smells. The mattress was old and springs poked throughthe mattress. There were only dirty smelly blankets and no proper quilts or duvets.
The front desk staff were not friendly when we checked in. The foyer is old and the carpet smells. There are no coffee or tea making facilities in the room which is too small for a couple with 2 suitcases. We had to sterilise all surfaces. The toilet did not flush properly either and smelt. Not recommended.
We have been going to Hotel Palace each year for over 25 years. It is warm, welcoming, is in a perfect location and is excellent value for money.
We had a great time staying in this hotel for two nights. The central location is perfect for walking around Bologna and not too far from the station on foot either (and an easy route). The lobby area and large seating rooms are gorgeous.
Our room was great! Spacious, nice and clean and had a great view from the window. Our room had plugs and light switches right next to both sides of the bed (with bedside tables to rest phones on) which was perfect, and free WiFi too!
I'd seen a review of someone saying they couldn't sleep due to the noise from the adjoining cinema but we had no issues with it at night. Although we could hear it when we nipped back to the room one afternoon to drop stuff off before heading out for the evening so maybe if you're trying to go to sleep early it might cause you issues?
The staff were lovely and helpful when checking in/out and leaving our bag before and after so we could explore the city.
I feel like our stay was good value for money and will absolutely stay here again if we revisit Bologna!
Good hotel within walking distance of bars and restaurants. Friendly attentive staff who helped to make my stay very enjoyable
Very clean room. Super complete breakfast. Top staff. Location also perfect. Enjoyed my stay, will return if i come back to Bologna (normally every year).
If you want a budget hotel in the center of the city this is good. The building is in great need of repairs, everything is old and needs attention. The worst thing about the hotel is that it is connected to a movie theater that blast sounds every day to midnight. If you go to bed easy this is a big problem.
Old but elegant hotel. Must have been high class in its prime. Very good breakfast selection, close to main plaza, church, shopping and restaurants. Very good restaurant next door. Only complaint is the bed was very hard. Needs a foam pad.
AVOID. Booked for 2 nights but checked out after one - they refused to refund us but we were so desperate to leave and lucky enough to find an alternative nearby, we cut our losses. We have stayed in old âcharacterâ places before, and donât mind antique furniture or a dated but cared for vibe. However this property was not even trying to achieve these things! From the start reception staff could barely bring themselves to greet us, the impression then persisted that guests and their comfort are completely irrelevant. The whole place is in dire need of updating and refurbishing. Decor run down and tired to the point of falling apart - carpets and upholstery dirty and frayed, shabby furniture, general bad smells from bathroom drains, badly-installed laminate flooring buckled with damp and revealing ancient carpet underneath. Non-existent basic room facilities. We were bitten by insects in the night - having encountered bedbugs before we were fairly confident it was not mosquitos as the bites are quite distinctive. Up until this happened we were prepared to stick it out and chalk up to experience but it was the final straw, we packed and got out as soon as we could. On announcing we were leaving early there was no curiosity from staff as to how our stay had been or why we might be bailing out. We were shown their latest bedbug inspection report which appeared to be a box ticking game. Sad that a fine old building has been run down like this - it could be great.
Hotel had a central location near Bologna Downtown and Two Towers, lots of shops, restaurants and stores nearby mini marts and grocery stores.
Good bathroom and room size...interesting small door to get into room.
Hotel is old but in good condition for age. Elevator was a savior but only 1 person and 2 large suit case's per trip or 2 people with luggage.
A/C worked well...small bathroom and room but we expected it from the other reviews. The accessibility to downtown and walkable access to the plazas and great food Low and Slow BBQ was the best BBQ I have had in a few years (10-15 minute walks) plus you can discover great Gelato spots along the way.
Best Dinner spot is Sfoglia Rina, Tortulini, Amatriciana and Lasanga.
Close 2nd is Darcy Osteria Contemporanea (expect to be here for 1.5 to 2 hours) great food service and dishes made fresh but they take time.
The location was good, but literally everything else about the hotel was terrible. The shower had hardly any water pressure and when you turned on the sink, the water in the shower turned to a dribble. The âhotâ water was lukewarm at bestâto get decent water pressure, you had to turn on the cold water which only resulted in a cold shower. The shower doubled as a bidet!! There was no A/C in our room despite advertising that the hotel had air conditioning. Awful! The rooms were old and shabby with horribly stained carpet. The photos online were wildly different than the reality of the hotel. We took customers with us for a trade show and were horrified to have them stay here. So embarrassingâŚand for over $300 per night. Save yourself and move on to the next search listing!!!!
