Lovely relaxing stay.
Pros:

This was a self-catering hotel. We had a lovely apartment, and the kitchen was very well equipped. There was no supermarket within walking distance from the hotel, but the nearby petrol station sold bread, milk, eggs etc. Twice a week a lady comes to the hotel selling vegetables, and it is possible to buy some basic supplies from the Hut (café). There is also a small restaurant on site. All meals were very good.

Cons:

We were not aware of the close proximity of the busy road, which was quite noisy at times.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Pros:

My recent trip to Barbados was my first visit to the Caribbean. We selected the Beach View Villas & Hotel based on the positive reviews we had read. Unfortunately, my experience was quite different.

The positive aspects include the clean accommodation and well-maintained grounds. I upgraded to a classic suite for the additional space and the amenities. The new shower room was impressive. The onsite restaurant was pleasant and we enjoyed our meals. The staff were very friendly. The pools are pleasant but the sunbeds are uncomfortable.

The negative aspects include the location. I had emailed the hotel several times prior to arrival requesting a classic suite with a balcony. They ignored my request and we were dumped in the Paw Paw block, which is the worst accommodation on the resort. Day and night the suites in this block endure the constant loud road noise of the main Highway 1 traffic. Although we were on the top floor, with an awful closed-in glass veranda, the noise was still unbearable. The bed in the suite was incredibly hard and the air con unit in the bedroom only worked when the door is kept shut ( very weird system). We was offered an alternative suite which we declined because we actually met the exiting guests. They told us their room still heard the road noise but they had also had disturbance from the three babies in the room next door!

The so-called 5 acres of gardens are actually numerous garden paths in front of people’s ground-floor accommodations or around the pools. This is quite intrusive of their space. The landscaping is pleasant but the downside is the presence of insects, particularly mosquitoes, which we were bitten by. A tip is to bring plenty of insect repellent.

Across the street is a small, inaccessible and dilapidated beach. The actual Paynes Beach is about a 15minute walk away. We tried this once. The constant fumes from the traffic pollution and the uneven dangerous pavement made it a difficult walk. Holetown was a better location, especially as it offers a more pleasant environment away from the ramshackle properties which surround the Beach View resort.

The yellow reggae buses are operated by drivers who appear to be reckless. This is a highly dangerous and risky experience. These buses are overcrowded and drivers frequently chase each other to maximise fares. Accidents are frequent, including a fatal one recently, which the Barbados Tourist Board choose not to publicise.

The hotel suite I booked was advertised as a Classic suite with the amenities clearly listed. On the third day I discovered that the washer/dryer was faulty. Initially I was patronisingly told the machine was working correctly. I was obviously imagining the unpleasant odour from my clothes which I had taken out of the machine. Eventually it was agreed that the machine was broken and an immediate replacement was promised. However, five days later and despite repeated assurances, the machine was not replaced. Transparency sadly lacking. I requested a room change because I was not being provided the amenities which I had paid for but this was denied as the hotel was supposedly fully booked. On our departure day I was sarcastically told that a new washer/dryer was being installed that day.

At the end of your stay, the hotel has a strict midday deadline to vacate your room. At 11:59 a loud knock was heard on our room door. The person who entered made a remark referencing the room being left in order! This unnecessary and uncomfortable experience has never happened to us before. I felt I was being escorted away from my room.

I asked reception to store our luggage because we had a late flight home. I was very alarmed to find our suitcases under the Spa’s stairwell, clearly visible to the public when the door was open. Hotels usually store suitcases securely and provide a return claim ticket for identification.

Our nine nights at the Beach View Villas was very disappointing. I have shared my experience and issues with my tour company British Airways Holidays. They have been excellent, very supportive and understanding.

We will not be returning to the Beach View premises.

Wonderful hotel with one hitch
Pros:

Text: I would have given this lovely hotel 5 out of 5 - it was immaculate, the 2 bedroom suite was perfect for our family of 4, the restaurant was good and we made use of it our first night when we were travel weary and glad of some good food without leaving the complex. The little hut sells amazing iced coffee and lots of essentials, and housekeeping kept us well supplied with filter coffee for the machine in the suite. Kids loved the pools. The staff were helpful and snorkel rental a nice touch too.

The only thing that let it down for me was the road noise. We were in the horseshoe shaped collection of four buildings at the front, and unfortunately we were at the far left of the horseshoe which is closest to the road. It’s Highway 1 so not a minor road and the sound of the buses and lorries and even quad bikes late into the night and early in the morning was almost unbearable. I wore ear plugs each night and we kept the air con on for background white noise but still it disturbed us. The reviews of this hotel are excellent and rightly so but I would warn anyone with any noise sensitivity whatsoever to book towards the back of the complex, not the suites at the front.

Easter Break
Pros:

We took a weeks holiday at the Beach View just before Easter. The hotel was recommended to us several years ago and did not disappoint.

We were greeted on arrival by one of the excellent team who met us outside the block we were staying in, no formal painful check in that most hotels mandate. Straight to our room with explanation of where everything was, which was so refreshing.

Everything about the hotel was excellent, the room was spacious, well equipped and with a fantastic view across Paynes Bay and one of the pools, we were in the Passion Fruit block.

The pools were all great, and never too busy, sun beds always available. The staff all round the hotel were excellent and so helpful, in particular Marissa, who went out of her way to help us and recommend places to eat.

I would highly recommend this hotel as it was quiet, however that does mean you may have to get taxis to get a good choice of restaurants. We will definitely return .

Return visit which surpassed the first visit
Pros:

This was our second stay at Beachview having had such a tremendous experience a few years earlier. We were welcomed back like old friends, all of our instructions for arrival including the provision of groceries were delivered , room booked in the desired location - we were even checked in by the owner. Brilliant location for Payne’s Beach, local restaurants and drinking spots, superb attentive staff, love the upper pool by the villas and cafe (which serves great food) and the new Stedes Bar is a fabulous addition

Great location with easy breakfast options.
Pros:

I had a great experience at the hotel. I booked a villa and we had more than enough space for 6 women to have space. I also liked having 2 patio areas. Fully equipped kitchen with everything we needed. It was clean every day and having a pool steps away was fantastic. Parking is easy and the staff helps do everything from getting a rental car to booking taxis.
