The best experience, a peaceful haven in the heart of Trastevere. Wonderful professional friendly service, nothing is too much trouble. The best staff I have encountered for a long time, everyone is happy and smiling. The breakfast man who makes the cappucinos with a message deserves a mention too! The rooms are lovely, and the garden area a lovely place to relax in the shade after a day of sightseeing. Its also very quiet. We will be back!
A great location, right at the heart of lovely Trastevere, but hidden away around a quiet courtyard. Our rooms was fairly simple, but perfectly comfortable. The best thing about the hotel however is the staff, all of whom were friendly in a really genuine way, and made us feel right at home from the first minute. Breakfast in the courtyard was lovely and a great way to start the day. Happy Hour was a real highlight, when a delicious free buffet is laid on to accompany the truly excellent cocktails.

ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL - We recently stayed at the Hotel Santa Maria, and it was delightful in every single way. From the moment we arrived, we were charmed. The garden area is absolutely gorgeous—a peaceful little oasis to unwind in after a day of exploring.
The staff here are amazing and went above and beyond to be helpful. A special highlight of our stay was the morning breakfast with coffee.
Our room eas supersized and had under gone a new refurbishment.
The location couldn't be better. There are so many wonderful restaurants right around the hotel, and it is within comfortable walking distance to the Colosseum, the Vatican, and many other major attractions.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
What a great location, step off the charming streets full of people in the heart of Trastevere into a quiet, peaceful courtyard with wonderful staff. It was amazing. Walking distance to all the parts of Rome and such great food and vibes in the surrounding neighborhood of the hotel. We never did the happy hour, had plans but did pass through once and that looked lovely too.
We definitely enjoyed our stay at Hotel Santa Maria! Lively Trastevere was a fun area to explore and dine, but to then come to back to the peace and quiet of this friendly hotel and its welcoming courtyard was perfect. We especially enjoyed coffee outside after dinner and breakfast among the orange trees. Rooms are smaller but clean and provide everything one needs.
We absolutely loved our stay in May 2026 at Hotel Santa Maria as a very quaint and quiet oasis with our travels in Rome and in the vibrant neighborhood of Trastevere. The Staff were Exceptional as so welcoming and added greatly to our beautiful experience of Rome - the breakfast and happy hour crew were very fun and lovely, and the front desk staff were very helpful for our Rome excursions. We had 4 hotels in our 2 weeks stay in Italy with some of the hotels being fancier but hands down, Hotel Santa Maria was our Favorite due to the quaintness and very enjoyable staff members. We would love to return someday as loved Norman and Kevin! Also loved the neighborhood. Thank you, Santa Maria; you stole our hearts...
Una struttura silenziosa e discreta dentro alla movida

Stayed here 19 years ago and it has gotten better. Once you enter the gates you don’t know you are in a major city. Beautiful quiet courtyard. Staff is fantastic

I just stayed here again with friends and we thoroughly enjoyed it. This is such a little gem of a hotel.
The staff is exceptionally kind and helpful (calling out Adriano, Kevin, Norman and Armando).
The happy hour is awesome, with snacks and a full bar; the courtyard is charming - the whole package is a peaceful oasis in the middle of bustling Trastevere (fitting since it’s a former convent).
Rooms vary in size between standard and superior and they all face some sort of courtyard or terrace.
Most bathrooms have a step-over tub and shower.
It’s a great location for visiting Rome’s highlights, from the Vatican area to Piazza Navona and the Colosseum. Excellent restaurants nearby and a fun vibe with John Cabot University down the street.
This is one of my all time favorite boutique hotel experiences - i will be back. :)
