Hotel Santa Maria

Charming hotel. Great location. Rooms are dated and that is clear to see in pictures. But dated and not clean are not the same. Our bathroom had specs of mold and shower head was green with lime indicating it was not clean. I am sensitive to mold and found this challenging. My advice. Do a full check or room upon entering and speak up early. I did not discover this until after 10p and by then we were exhausted. Rest of facilities are clean. Good breakfast and coffee. Happy hour spritz is 15 e but it includes some cold treats pizza and sandwiches. People are very nice. Air conditioning in our room was cool not cold. Rome is steaming this summer. Literally 40C today. Our early stay was at the smeraldo…much better experience and value. This is budget choice in a nice area of Rome with benefit of larger family rooms. Once you get a room so a full review to ensure you are happy.

This hotel is far and away our favorite place to stay in Europe - staff is incredible, rooms are quiet and comfortable, and location is perfection. Plus the vibe/atmosphere of the hotel is so sweet. We easily fit our family of 4 in one of the suites and it was spotless! Most delicious breakfasts as well. We can't wait to go back!

We loved this hotel. Went with my 2 teenage kids and stayed in a triple room. It had everything we needed and the air con was much appreciated in the Rome heat! Breakfast and happy hour were brilliant, plenty of choice and good quality. Location was perfect, the area comes alive in the evening, this hotel is like a calm oasis within vibrant area, which was perfect for us. We definitely plan to return.

The hotel is in a perfect location and the customer staff is unbelievable and made us feel so welcome. We lost our luggage and Armando went above and beyond to assist us and was truly amazing. Would recommend this place to everyone

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Santa Maria in June 2026. We traveled with our family of four, including two kids. The hotel staff was kind, attentive and thoughtful. The room was perfect for our family and everyone had their own space. We would especially like to recognize Armando and the front desk staff who were incredibly responsive and supportive from the moment we booked the trip. They assisted us to get transportation, restaurant reservations, and more. Additionally Norman and the bar staff were awesome too! They were creative and thoughtful and made amazing drinks!

The hotel was a clean sanctuary in the middle of a lovely neighborhood - best of both worlds. We look forward to returning some day!

Loved our stay at Hotel Santa Maria. We loved being in Trastevere, the hotel itself was nice and quiet. It was refreshing to come back to air conditioning after hot days exploring Rome. The staff was very attentive and made sure our stay was comfortable. Kevin made us the best cappuccinos every morning. Would absolutely recommend this hotel.

What sets Hotel Santa Maria apart is its staff - so customer focused and personable. We were travelling as a family of four and had a junior suite. The hotel itself is a quiet sanctuary right in the heart of Trastevere which absolutely came alive particularly at night. It is maybe 30 metres from the main square. We were there during a hot spell and the air conditioning in the room was perfect. Breakfast under the orange trees was lovely and the coffee/coffee art was amazing. The staff really make you feel very welcomed. It is also behind a large gate and you need to get buzzed in - very safe.

This lovely hotel is a jewel on Trastevere secluded but right in the heart of the action. The location felt super safe, the courtyard was charming, the breakfast and complimentary snacks during happy hour were lovely and the staff were so so helpful and really looked after us for our first stay in Roma

Wow! We just arrived exhausted from heat and overnight train from Vienna and they kindly offered us coffee, water and breads and had room ready for us (admittedly a triple) by 11:30. Molto gentile hosts - so so helpful and kind. We already LOVE it here and just got into our room!

This hotel has ruined all expectations for any other hotel. Everything about it is spectacular. The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet, despite it being in the heart of Trastevere. You can't beat the location. It is minutes from the best restaurants. Breakfast and Happy Hour are phenomenal. Having cappuccinos and breakfast under the orange trees was the best way to start our day. But perhaps the best thing about it, is the service. The staff aims to please and will accommodate you with anything you need. No hotel has ever compared. I hope to return to ROME one day and this would be MY ONLY CHOICE! Our stay was unforgettable and I miss it so much already!

Really loved the calm orange garden courtyard. Nice and clean rooms and nice sheets, lovely staff, great breakfast and fantastic aperitivo each evening.

Staff were wonderful and friendly; Breadcrumb, the cat, was a great Happy Hour greeter; and Kevin, the bartender, was wonderful. The breakfast was a mixture of Italian and American, making a happy medium for a kid. The hotel was also within walking distance of most attractions and close to the bus stop. The neighborhood was lively and had amazing food choices. The staff alone made it 5-star accommodations.

We stayed here 19 years ago and it was great. Now it’s better!! From the moment we arrived (at 830 am) staff takes complete care of everything. Adriano and Armonda at from desk could not be more helpful. Rooms are clean (typical Europe size) and courtyard is beautiful. Norman runs a great breakfast and his cousin Kevin takes over for Happy Hour and evening shift. I can’t say enough about all of the staff. Once you enter the gates it’s an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Rome. Stay here!

We stayed at Hotel Santa Maria for three nights in May 2026, and it was one of the highlights of our entire Italy trip. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect.

The hotel itself is a peaceful oasis tucked inside the vibrant neighborhood of Trastevere. Step outside the gates and you’re surrounded by lively restaurants, bars, and endless things to see and do. Step back inside, and you’re transported to a serene courtyard filled with beautiful fruit trees, quiet pathways, and a sense of calm that feels worlds away from the busy streets.

Our room was extremely comfortable and provided the perfect place to relax after long days of exploring Rome. The included breakfast each morning in the courtyard was lovely, with fresh and delicious offerings served in a beautiful setting.

What truly made our stay exceptional, however, was the staff. Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, and attentive. A special thank you to Norman, whose morning cappuccinos were works of art. His personalized designs and messages each day brought a smile to our faces and started every morning perfectly. We also looked forward to seeing Kevin each evening during aperitivo. His service was outstanding and made every night feel special.

Speaking of aperitivo—it is not to be missed! The drinks are incredibly generous, and the buffet of hors d’oeuvres was fresh, abundant, and absolutely delicious. It quickly became one of our favorite parts of the day.

Hotel Santa Maria exceeded every expectation. The combination of the beautiful setting, comfortable accommodations, incredible staff, and perfect location made for an unforgettable stay. We loved it so much that we would return to Rome just for the opportunity to stay here again.

We have stayed many times at hotel santa maria because it is a fantastic hotel you are right in the area of trastevere where all the restaurants are. A perfect base to explore Rome. The hotel is so quiet and is very clean. The staff are amazing. Especially Armando on reception he is so friendly and knowledgeable and very professional. Norman in the restaurant for breakfast was also amazing and friendly he does the best coffee art. Kevin in the bar in the evening was great and friendly they all made my husbands 60th birthday very special. We have visited Rome many times and the hotel santa maria is the only place we would stay .
