Pros:

The motel was near restaurants, the stores, Old Winchester, and the Shenandoah Valley Museum. It was very clean, had a large TV, and all the rooms had a walk-in shower!

The room smelled like a dog kennel. There were two dogs running in the hall when we got up to our floor. The owner was trying to corral them. The furnishings are quite ugly, but that’s OK.Dog poop on the road at the entrance.

When I arrived, I observed several people lingering and smoking near the entrance and in the parking lot. I also noticed an unpleasant odor, and an uncontrolled dog jumped on me as I entered.

I decided not to stay and asked the front desk how to cancel. A staff member told me the property would approve a fee-free cancellation through Booking.com. I left and booked another hotel, but the property later charged me $109.19.

I contacted Booking.com. Their representative told me they had difficulty reaching the hotel, but after speaking with the property, Booking.com informed me that the hotel agreed to refund the $109.19.

After I complained, management sent me emails criticizing my demeanor and informed me that I had been placed on the property’s Do Not Rent list. Management also cited a “48-hour cancellation policy,” while the cancellation policy displayed on Wyndham’s website for this hotel appeared to state different terms.

Those are the events I personally experienced. My conclusion is that the atmosphere upon arrival made me uncomfortable, and the way the cancellation and subsequent complaint were handled made the situation far more stressful than it needed to be. I would not choose to stay at this property again.
