Beautiful hotel with a lovely view over the city!
Nothing!
A truly unique place with a fascinating history; four stars is a bit of an overstatement. Breakfast was rather poor—unsurprisingly, since the hotel doesn't run its own restaurant, so everything served was quick and standard.
For a 4-star hotel, only the location and the history of the place are good; everything else is looking rather worn...
Equipo profesional, con trato servicial y cercano. Gran desayuno.
Perfectly positioned to explore Hondarribia’s Old Town. Staff were responsive and helpful when I left an item behind. Parking was close and convenient.
Very expensive and under-equipped compared to other Paradors. As is to be expected with these hotels, there was a convoluted path to the room navigating frequent changes in level and stairs with luggage. Some staff assistance (or warning/advice at check-in) would be helpful. Lack of onsite restaurant was obvious at breakfast in both staffing and food preparation.
Our second visit to Hondarribia, but our first stay in the Parador.
We booked a junior suite as the hotel was almost fully booked and all that was available, which was a normal sized room with an extra small sitting area, overlooking the river – a fabulous view.
Despite being almost full, the service was excellent, the staff friendly, efficient and available, the hotel pristine, and the room comfortable, and quiet, so we had an excellent night’s sleep.
Due to the number of guests the breakfast was by sitting, but not rushed, and up to the usual high Parador standard, with more than adequate selection of cold and hot items.
The hotel has private, payable parking, which is small so if required it should be pre-booked, and is an “interesting” drive to access, with a 5 minute deviation through the old town to get round a 50m one-way block, and a very tight final bend. A recommendation is to take a look on Google Earth before trying!
One downside is that the hotel does not have a restaurant, not normally a problem, as there are numerous good restaurants in Hondarribia, but most are not open on a Sunday evening, when we were there. The hotel reception staff did give us several recommendations, so we did get to eat.
In summary, an excellent stay, well up to the high Parador standards.
The hotel has parking (for a fee), is very clean, and offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The best part of my stay was Room 208, with a spectacular ocean view and panoramic views of Spain and France, right in the heart of the Basque Country. It was definitely a very pleasant experience that I would recommend.
The only thing that could be improved is that I would have liked parking to be included in the room rate or to cost less.
The most beautiful interior. The two staff on reception were so welcoming and helpful. Location perfect fir walking to restaurants for supper.
At breakfast water not hot enough to make a good cup of tea.
Magnificent historic building full of character. Central location and helpful staff.
Nothing. Everything was perfect.
