Had lots of problems with our room key

location is a traffic jam with cars and pedestrians blocking exit roads. Very stressful when trying to get to the airport.
On 9/10/26 I found the check in process a nightmare, I arrived at reception about 2:30pm and was told room wasn't ready and come back at 3pm which I did, only to be greeted by literally +100 others queuing to check in. More desk staff needed! at 4;30am on the first night I was awaked by fire alarm evacuation alarm and instructed to leave the building (I was on 9th floor so had to use the stair well to leave the building. After about 10 minutes we were told by a fire warden very nonchalantly we could go back into the building, no explanation given for the false alarm.
On 11/10/26 I was locked out of my room, the security card didn't work, I went to reception twice where I spoke to Yavier a young person lacking experience and overwhelmed by the issues guests were reporting. He checked my card and said "it should" work! This happened again before I again came to reception and found a domestic employee and asked her to help me which she did, In the meantime the fire alarm evacuation went off again and the building was evacuated again, and again a false alarm. All these unnecessary delays occurred when I was trying to get to the airport to catch an international flight.
Needless to state that I will never stay at an Oaks Hotel ever again nor will I give a positive recommendation.

The fire alarm went off at 4:30am which felt like hell on earth, but that ls not a hotel fault. And I think all rooms should have a balcony

Unfortunately stay wasn’t the greatest. Arrived after check in and told room was clean but needed to be checked over, should be 5 minuites sit in lobby and we will call you over. No problem, they were busy, sat and waited over 45mins went back up to desk and they say oh rooms been ready? No one said anything even though we were sitting metres away. Anyways booked for 2 single beds, they told me to call to confirm a few weeks before which I did. Confirmed at front desk yes two single beds. Then went up to the room to have one double which didn’t work as I was staying with my Dad, unfortunately not great comms from there took a few hours only soloution was a trundled bed. Went to sleep in it at midnight and it was broken/missing wheels and folding down the middle. By that point they were able to come to another soloution of a room becoming available which I appreciated. All in all not majors but just unfortunate I had to follow up at every time, and took hours to sort, would have been a worry if I was in a rush

Check in-
Went to check in at 2.50, we told to come back at 3.
Came back at 3.10 to a longgggggg queue, took us 50 mins to get to the check in desk, when up gave name &details.
We were told room wasn't ready, and to come back, told them we have been waiting for an hour already, and had to wait in another line for an hour if we were to come back. (At this stage it was an hour)
After insisting to check in, they said you can now, there reason not being able to check in was, furniture as being moved around due to refurbishment. (Also gave them details about car park payed $45.00) (over an hour at this stage)

The room had old dirty marked furniture, no bedside table on one side of the bed, kitchen oven noob was missing, rangehood front piece was missing, bathroom sink had men's facial hair in it (no male was with me)

Fire alarm went off at 4.20 AM, 20 mins outside in the dark, walked back up 10 flights of stairs.

Went to check out, asked why the fire alarm went off, he said it was dust from refurbishment ( dust doesn't set a fire alarm off & why at 4.20am a weird time if you ask me)
Went to drive out of car park and barrier wouldn't go up and told us to pay $36.00, rang hotel and they got it to go up. (Why did I pay $45.00 during check in and when leaving told us $36, sounds like your scamming)

We had originally booked a two bedroom apartment for one nights stay. However 3 days prior to our stay after payment had already been made we were contacted to let us know the apartment was no longer available as renovations were still in progress and we would need to be moved to two hotel rooms instead. The staff were very helpful in ensuring the beds were arranged accordingly for a family with small children as well as the rooms being interconnected. However no reimbursement of costs was offered even though the accomodation had been downgraded, but instead we were provided with free parking and breakfast which was fine. During the stay though it was notable these renovations had put a lot of guests out and caused major inconvenience and disruptions. Most importantly the lifts were being used for moving large furniture etc during the day meaning we had to take flights of stairs with a pram which is unacceptable considering people especially those with mobility issues would require those lifts. The fire alarms were also set off multiple times across the stay meaning a whole building evacuation, it was unclear if this was in relation to the renovations. This should have been better managed at the premium you pay for staying at this property, the poor staff were trying their best however under the given circumstances.

We booked a 1-bedroom apartment, but 3 days prior they emailed me and told me the rooms are being refurbished and won’t be ready. The only option we had was to go to a standard room. Then they said in the day they could make up our room, when we got to our room there was only a bed in the main room and 1 small couch in the whole living space. Very disappointing stay.

Issues checking in. Dropped bags at 12.30 and advised room likely ready in 1/2 an hour. Arrived around 1.30 and room was clean but waiting to be inspected. We were fine with that as we were early anyway but we arrived at 3.10 told to wait 5 min for the room and ended up having to wait 50 minutes to get checked in. No apologies when we finally checked in. There was a fire alarm in the morning which I get is unavoidable but turns out there was one the night before too. Not enough toilet paper in room.

2 hours to check in. Room renovations only half finished- not enough furniture or even light bulbs in the lamps.

A series of unfortunate events for our stay. A busy event filled weekend in Auckland so did expect some waiting but did not expect our room to not be ready. No worries, a few free drinks at the in house bar! But after 3 hours and 3 sets of free drinks, the novelty starts to wear off. Having to get ready in a communal bathroom to make our reservations and concert on time is not what I expected after paying $280 for one night.
