Beautiful rainforest retreat, Beautiful birds and walks. Room was ok.
Problem with smell in our room, we were offered the room next to us but felt it could be the same. No upgrade or other compensation offered. For 2 nights it was ok.
The bird feeding and the tree top walk
We paid for a mountain view room and did not have a nice view- just roof tops. The room next to us had one and was empty so they could have put us in there
O'Reilly's is an extraordinary guest house as it is exactly across the road from the trail head into a world heritage listed national park temperate/subtropical rainforest. You can walk all day in the wilderness and return to a comfortable meal and bed at the guesthouse. There would be very few locations like this in Australia. If you love walking in magnificent forests this is the place to visit.
meals were quite expensive for pensioners that do not eat a great deal. food was excellant
food hotter
This is a birding wonderland with amazing facilities. Camp kitchen awesome
Nothing
Heater not working, room isn't what it paid for because of the generator location
I liked the welcome briefing (although wish that had been pointed out to me when I’d booked in on my first day) and the glass of sparkling. I found Kyle to be very helpful with information regarding walks. Loved the early morning bird experience (even in the drizzle). I liked that O’Reillys offered a glass of wine per guest if you chose not to have your room cleaned during your stay…a nice incentive.
The pizza options for dinner at the bar were an attractive alternative to the more expensive dining room prices.
Given the weather I managed only a couple of the shorter walks, but they were wonderful.
I was disappointed that my room had a view of the garbage bins and the back of the blue plane. I’d expected something more serene and beautiful. I tried to change this but was told that I’d have to pay another $100 to change rooms for 2 nights. I declined.
And I was disappointed that when I booked in around 3pm on the Monday I wasn’t told about the info session nor about the early morning bird walk. Fortunately my daughter who’d been there the previous year asked what I thought of the bird walk…which alerted me. And later I read about the info sessions.
Aldo, I would have liked to have seen a prominent story board (or similar) telling the story of the relationship of aboriginal people to this area, what happened to them and what continuing contact O’Reillys had with their descendants.
The staff were exceptional so friendly and helpful
