What an experience! We did not expect such an incredible meal following our Machu Picchu trip. It included local foods and drinks, excellent and enthusiastic service, and truly a fine dining experience. The only thing I could possibly look more forward to now is the nap on the bus.
After visiting the majestic Machu Picchu site and hiking all the steps around the archaeological site we were so exhausted and our agency had made a lunch reservation for us at the Tinkuy restaurant at the Sanctuary Lodge. They had an amazing buffet with a great Peruvian selection. The service was great and Russell took care of us making sure we were all hydrated after our hike. This is an excellent stop to curb your hunger and get energy before going back down to Machu Picchu Pueblo to catch the train back to Cusco.
Sanctuary Lodge is beautiful and tranquil. It is steps away from the entrance to Machu Picchu and saves the long bus queue and ride. The Terrace is stunning, with views of the surrounding mountain area. The natural spring water runs down through the lovely orchid garden landscape, creating a very zen environment. Breakfast is incredible with local fruits and fresh-squeezed juices, along with an excellent choice of breakfast items. Highly suggest the Eggs Benedict as the fresh-baked “English” muffin just melts in your mouth. Breham, our server, went above and beyond to make our experience unforgettable. Highly recommend.
Breham, our waiter, was so kind and helpful. He even gave us a quick tour while we waited. The food was incredible, the location is iconic, and the atmosphere was tranquil. Everything and more than you would expect from a place like this.
Breham was our host and was so thoughtful and helpful!

The experience at the Sanctuary Lodge was truly remarkable. We enjoyed every minute of our 2-night stay. The food, service, rooms adn location are all just amazing!
Exceptional staff who made the entire experience incredible and special! The room amenities were perfect for an overnight stay. My guest and I were offered another room to rest in given our late afternoon journey after 12pm checkout which was much appreciated after an early morning start at Machu Picchu. Our terrace view
Really good breakfast and visiting Machu Picchu. Everything we needed and more. The coffee and spread was excellent. The service impeccable and our waiter, Russel, was very good and knowledgeable. He shared his native experience through chocolate

We had a great lunch experience at this place which is super well located at the foothills of Machu Picchu. Ask for super waiter Breham to complete your experience in Machu Picchu
We had a fantastic meal at Tampu restaurant. The food was delicious and it was so relaxing. Breham took fantastic care of us
After an amazing visit to Machu Picchu Circuit 3 and before we embark the Hiram Bingham train to Poroy we stoped at the Sanctuary Lodge for lunch. After amazing and exotic main dishes and fabulous Pisco Saurs we had the best ever Creme Brûlée with lemongrass! Unique and beautifully presented too.
All of this with an absolutely flawless and friendly service!
The Belmond team is amazing and made it possible for us to visit Machu Picchu on two different days. The location is unbeatable, and the hotel’s facilities are outstanding.
This property falsely advertises that guests have dawn access to Machu Pichu. I paid $10,500 for one night for four rooms based on this advertised information. Guests do NOT have any special access to the ruins whatsoever. In addition, the hotel is interesting, because it’s the former research facilities, but the hotel isn’t great at all. The service and food are good but this is otherwise a massive disappointment.
False advertising- no special access to Machu Pichu whatsoever and certainly no dawn access
After hiking Machu Picchu, my husband and I stopped in for breakfast. We were not guests of the hotel, however the staff was gracious in welcoming us. There is a large variety of food and drink. Everything was freshly prepared and very tasty. Our server, Russel was excellent. We enjoyed speaking with him. He shared a special drink of plantain, cinnamon and star anise. Russel provided excellent service. We recommend this restaurant. Thank you to the staff and especially to Russel!
After completing the Inca Trail, there is simply no better place to stay than the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge. Located literally at the entrance to Machu Picchu, the convenience alone is unmatched, but what truly sets this property apart is the overall experience.
Our group of 11 ladies arrived after four unforgettable days on the Inca Trail and spent the afternoon exploring Circuit 1. The next morning, we were able to enter early for a full Circuit 2 tour, the most comprehensive route through Machu Picchu, without the stress of transportation or early morning travel from Aguas Calientes. Being able to walk directly from the hotel to one of the world's greatest wonders was priceless.
The service was exceptional from start to finish. Every staff member made us feel welcomed and cared for after our trek. The rooms were comfortable and beautifully maintained, providing the perfect place to rest and recover. The restaurant exceeded expectations, with delicious food, excellent service, and a relaxing atmosphere that allowed us to soak in the experience even after leaving the citadel. And the gardens, and patio were our fave place to hang out!
What we appreciated most was the gift of time. While most visitors rush in and out of Machu Picchu, staying at Sanctuary Lodge allowed us to experience it at a slower pace, watching the changing light, returning for a second day, and truly appreciating the magic of this extraordinary place.
If Machu Picchu is a once-in-a-lifetime destination, staying at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is the way to experience it. We cannot speak highly enough of the service, accommodations, dining, and unmatched location. Absolutely unforgettable.
Amazing hotel, friendly and helpful staff! Wilson the waiter helped us with lunch was very nice and kind!
