Rooms are tired - definitely not a superior stay
Pros:

Great views. Food at dinner and breakfast was delicious. Staff friendly. Spa facilities good.

Cons:

Room was supposed to be superior but it definitely wasn’t.
- there was no hot water for a bath. Called reception and they said the boiler had tripped so they’d reset it and to try again in 10 minutes. Tried again half an hour later and still freezing cold. Had to have a temperamental shower instead which kept going hot and cold.
- found a huge toe nail on the bathroom floor 🤢
- at midnight someone was repeatedly trying to get in to our room. He said he was told at reception that room 212 (our room) was his.
- awful nights sleep. Room too hot. Air con didn’t work.
- only one hot chocolate sachet between 2 people.
- cost of drinks high: 1 single disaronno and coke at Bar No.18 was £8.40!!!

Stunning golf estate. Not the best place with a dog
Pros:

We enjoyed being in the venue with all the facilities and the golf is absolutely stunning. The cottages are very private and comfortable. We were also a good distance for day trips in Dartmoor, the coast and Plymouth. The large parking facilities allowed us to park our boat we were towing.

Cons:

Even though the cottages were dog friendly it was a bit of a difficult stay with a dog because the restaurant was not accepting dogs inside and the outside area was very small and it was not great with the mid season September weather. The restaurant was also a bit dated and not really special for the price charged. The cottages are also a bit far from everything so we ended up not using any facilities like the gym or the pool because taking the car is just a hassle I tend to avoid during holidays

Perfect verblijf.
Pros:

Prachtig huisje, groot, schoon, alles en meer aanwezig van wat je maar nodig had. Eigen terras en balkon. Kan gebruik maken van de faciliteiten van het hotel. Veel privacy. Zag er uit alsof het onlangs keurig, modern gerenoveerd en ingericht was.

Cons:

Niks, was echt perfect.

Beautiful setting, lovely, spotless rooms and excellent staff .
Pros:

The staff were very attentive and helpful.
The problems lie with the amount of staffing in the restaurants. We had to wait for almost 20 minutes to get served for a drink at the bar, and, as the place was full. We then waited 45
minutes for ham, egg and chips and a curry!
This was not really acceptable.
There also needs to be another till at the bar as this will reduce the queues. There were three people behind the bar in Saturday at times but only one till! Hence the delays!

Pros:

Very grand grounds. Nice food. Free use of tennis courts and fitness centre and swimming pools.

TVs were small for the wall space , decour a little outdated, beds were a little hard, food although very good chips were over seasoned, hand wash was empty

Great gym facilities, avoid eating there
Pros:

The facilities are amazing, there is an amazing gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Everything is clean and well kept and the grounds are beautiful.

Cons:

Restaurant facilities were such a huge downside. The tables were all sticky, I had to ask someone to clean it and even then, not much improved. There was no one to greet us, we had to find our own table, request our own cutlery and go up to the bar to order food. This is unacceptable given the cost of the restaurant - very hectic. The food itself took 1 hour to arrive and the waiters were running around, with little attention to customer service. Simiarly, the breakfast is so expensive that I found it unprofessional that we had to go up to order eggs instead of having table service. The eggs took a long time to arrive also which meant the rest of our food was cold by the time it got there. Again, if it was affordable, I could overlook this but it is quite expensive for a subpar service!

Pros:

The staff were friendly and willing to help. The views were lovely and hotel was set in a peaceful area. We last stayed 10 yrs ago but the hotel doesn’t seem to have been updated since then so looks a bit tired. Especially in the sports bar.

Cons:

Breakfast area was a bit chaotic. People complaining to each other over the wait for eggs. Food would go cold waiting for them.
Menu in the brasserie was limited and difficult to book in the fine dining area as seems group bookings took priority.
Room was comfortable and spacious with a lovely view but you had to pay extra for that.
Was a pleasant stay but we agreed we wouldn’t return again. Best for a golfing stay.

Beautiful homely stay with hotel facilties on doorstep
Pros:

Really well appointed house in hotel grounds ,great touches which you often don't get in self-catering, like kitchen roll.
So quiet at the house but really close to hotel for facilities including lovely pool.
Staff very friendly and efficient.
Also like self-catering in a hotel setting rather than staying somewhere which could be a local family's home.

Cons:

If I am being very picky, there wasn't a mirror in the bedroom.

Definite decline in quality and standard since I last visited and have stayed a number of times over past 12 years.
Pros:

Location. Swimming pool. Good breakfast.

Cons:

Reception staff not very welcoming or helpful - rushed through details of stay. Told us we could use the pool and spa but didn’t give us any information or pass to get through the security gates.

Very creaky floorboards along corridors and in room.
