Unacceptable behaviour
Pros:

Location was fairly good
The staff were apologetic for what happened, and they tried to mend the damage done, but we're pretty ineffective, considering the high rate charged against the extremely poor value provided

Cons:

As a traveller paying over $120 per night for what is advertised as a premier 4-star establishment, the conditions I encountered were appalling and fell far below any basic standard of hospitality, hygiene, or safety. I say this when I compare the bed and breakfast rates worldwide and the level of service, amenities and ambience provided elsewhere


1. Unsanitary Behavior and Violation of Personal Space :- The most egregious incident occurred when housekeeping staff entered my room during my absence. Upon returning, I was disgusted to discover that staff members had used my private room toilet and departed without flushing.,, The toilet was left contaminated with discarded toilet paper—proving conclusively that it was used by the hotel's cleaning personnel after they finished tidying the rest of the room, as we are Muslim travellers and we always use water bidets and never use toilet papers ourselves.

2. One of the water suction inlets in the swimming pool was broken and sharp edged, which cut my son's finger while swimming

3. A swimming pool light fixture was broken, leaving exposed electrical wiring resting directly in the pool water

 4. The single metal ladder in the swimming pool was broken and unstable.

 5. When attempting to use the swimming pool, the staff refused to provide towels, informing us that we were required to bring towels down from my guest room. This is not how any reputable multi-star hotel operates.

6. The hotel room bathroom doorknob fell off completely from both sides. When maintenance was summoned to repair it, they reinstalled the handle backward. This resulted in the door locking automatically from the outside, rendering the bathroom entirely inaccessible. It took one night and one day to fix, during which we were given keys to another room to access washrooms!

 7. The towel rack inside the bathroom was broken and hanging off the wall.

8. Tiles on the lobby floor, in the washroom were broken

I made a booking for my son as main guest The staff placed my son in lessor standard/value room tgsn the twin delux room as per owur booking. then would not give us as refund or credit for difference. We think the staff pocketed the difference in the room amounts. She was very dismissive and rude. Bottom line we didn't get what we booked and paid for...

I had a good stay at Hotel Africana overall. The location is excellent and very convenient, which made getting around easy. The rooms are a good size and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and accommodating — I really appreciated being allowed to check in early.

Breakfast offered a decent selection and was a nice start to the day.

Cons:

The hotel does feel a bit dated in places, particularly the carpets and decor, which could use some refreshing. The bathrooms were fine but would benefit from having floor towels provided.

If you can, stay elsewhere

It was the conference location. That’s it.. nothing else beyond that.

Cons:

Not enough towels; room looked out onto the pool where there was music and noise every single night until about 11pm - sometimes later. Furniture etc is dated or needing repair. Staff had no accountability when requests were made - didn’t call back or respond. Kitchen was below the rooms so the smell of oil and food floated up into the rooms if the balcony door was open. Balcony door didn’t fully close so AC was useless AND it wasn’t possible to keep smells out. Fire alarm went off accidentally one night - many went to reception and staff were continuing with work saying it was an electrical fault (looked surprise to see us there). Generally a terrible, terrible stay. DON’T STAY THERE!

Cons:

Rooms facing the pool a very noisy. On a couple of nights, there was a band playing next to the pool. this was very loud and disturbing in the room.
