Clean ans spacious room

We enjoyed our two night stay at the Alton House Hotel - a good choice. An excellent location. A tasty, good value evening meal. Helpful staff on Reception. Our room was clean and comfortable.
A lift would have been helpful for the top rooms ie in 35 - but would probably be impractical. People in adjoining room were rather noisy, but settled down… eventually!
The hotel was located in a coveneient area for us to stay for an event we were attending.
The towel rail in the bathroom was covered in dust and dirt.

Bright car park lights and thin curtains meant that the room was not really dark enough. The hotel is quite tired

The staff was lovely although quite a few seemed newly employed and lacked experience. Parking was good.
Our room was very small for a double
This was very very much compounded by the weather being 35° which is of course no fault of the hotel.
The hotel has no air condioned areas. The rooms are certainly not air-conditioned.The hotel had provided a fan which was a big plus but frankly the room was unbearable due not only to the heat but because it was so tiny. Passing by when rooms were being cleaned I saw no rooms as small as ours.
Breakfast was not very good - everything ran out and took ages to be refilled. The hotel provided scrambled eggs which I found nasty and even fried eggs had to be separately ordered from the kitchen.
The hotel electrics need updating so as to provide sockets near the bed for phone charging.
The staff ! Superb ! Its a really comfortable, clean,welcoming homely hotel. 5 mins to the centre. Not bad price. Zero

Great location near the Station and also near the Wey Path walk around the lake.
Air con would be nice - but we did have a fan in the room and also patio doors which opened to a nice seating area which was not too hot. And lovely and cool in the evening.
