The Castle and Ball is a lovely, quirky hotel in the heart of Marlborough.
Pros:

The staff were welcoming and efficient. We had an evening meal which was very good. Breakfast was included in our fees and that was excellent. There was a lot of choice and the food was hot, well presented and tasty.

Cons:

Whilst the room was large and the beds were comfortable, unfortunately the room was very hot. We had been having some very hot weather however on the day we stayed it was cooler yet the room was still uncomfortably hot. The window was opened a little when we arrived and there was a small tabletop fan in the room but neither the open window nor the fan made much difference to the heat. I’m not sure how the management could do much about this without installing air conditioning.

One of our fav stays but let down badly by a poor standard bathroom and insufficient ventilation
Pros:

Location is fantastic
Breakfast very good
Staff excellent

Cons:

Bathroom spoilt the whole experience- tatty and small
We stayed during the heatwave and were provided with a fan ( and had one of our own) but this was not sufficient to provide relief from the heat as our room was on an upper floor.

Very comfortable and clean hotel. Great location and free car park for guests
Pros:

Comfy bed, clean, staff are lovely and great location

Cons:

When we arrived we went to our room but it hadn’t been cleaned, staff were very apologetic and gave us a complimentary drink while they sorted out a different room. Only a slight annoyance but the staff sorted it quickly

Perfect location. Friendly staff. Great breakfasts. Pity about the very hot room!
Pros:

The breakfasts were a great start to the day.

Cons:

The extreme heat was uncontrollable. Unfortunately, the large room, whilst described as airy, had been left with the curtains open, creating a furnace-like atmosphere that was hard to get rid of over the three days of my stay.

A nice, well-run hotel in a central location. Perfect in cooler weather.
Pros:

Very friendly helpful staff in very difficult (HOT) circumstances. The location is brilliant. The restaurant was air conditioned, which was essential (the rooms were not - phew!!). Great to have a car park so central. Plus - it was the only pub/hotel not showing the football - a real bonus.

Cons:

The toilet paper is terrible - bring your own! A lot of stairs for an elderly couple. Not their fault; nor was the steamy temperature of the room during a mega heatwave.
