Old beaten up rooms
So beautifully decorated throughout public areas and room. Staff were warm and welcoming.
So many extra thoughtful amenities in the room.
Best hairdryer I have ever used.
Dinner and breakfast were exceptional!
An outstanding experience from start to finish.
We loved it!
Magical
Nothing at all it was perfect in every way
Amazing hotel - great location. Best breakfast we ever had in any hotel/ restaurant.
I travel internationally multiple times per year. I don't need fancy, but I want clean, thoughtful, nice service, and to feel welcome. This hotel rates a zero in each category. Top 5 worst hotel experiences I have had. I just wanted to get out of there I felt so uncomfortable. This hotel failed at every level.
Parking - The first issue was parking, which Expedia said was included in my booking. But, apparently "Parking Included" doesn't mean this on Expedia - so buyer beware. I got stuck with $20 Euros - that's on Expedia.
Pool - Long drive and ready to hit the pool I saw when booking? $25 Euros per person per hour. I'm not kidding. I have never seen this anywhere in the world.
A/C - Hot days in Salamanca. Gets the room to about 75 degrees Farenheit but does not functionally work. I woke up sweating at 3 a.m.
Technology - Room phones are 25 years old and TV is probably 15. Almost useless on volume. Inconvenient and very few plug outlets for charging cords. These rooms have not been renovated in a very long time.
Fridge - Does not work properly or make things cold.
Kettle - None. Only Nespresso maker.
Hospitality - We had to find the front desk attendance behind a huge, dated monitor that is difficult to see around. and we were reluctantly checked in and shown to our room. No hello, no welcome to Salamanca, no here's what to do, no room overview, no map, no suggestions - nada. Here are your keys.
Room Condition - I would guess the last renovation was about 25 years. Old wallpaper, linens, etc. Robes were frayed at the cuffs, blinds were dirty with age, scuff marks on many of the walls. Bathroom looked like a time capsule. One of those strange shower cabinet type things with buttons and doodads - we had to call and have someone show us how to turn it on. Super cool in 2002. Not luxe - at all. The hotel room was clean.
Bathroom - Clean but old. No towel hooks. Tiny trash can with a small hole. Toilet in a glass enclosed office with a bidet (complete with ancient telephone).
Turn Down Service - Chocolates were left on our bed and towels put at bedside. Towels and bathmat not changed out after use. Bathrobes awkwardly hung on open closet doors at room entrance. Embarrassing and zero pride in hotelier service.
Mattress - Terrible and old. We all have a grandmother or aunt/uncle who has had the same mattress in the guest room for 25 years. This was ancient and hard (and I love firm mattresses - this was just old). Not comfortable at all and lumpy.
Location - Great. Right across from the primary cathedral. Beautiful.
Surpise! - The large evacuation plan sign on the back of the door, directly facing the bed, glows at night (photo below taken at about 11 p.m.). Not just a little - a very bright green that lights up the room. Like the level of. a small television. We asked for an eye mask as it was so bright we couldn't sleep and alas, this 5* hotel did not have them. I had to maneuver the floor lamp and put a towel over it to cover what I could. Again. Embarrassing and what???
Potential - With new management and some TLC, this could be a decent hotel. I would rather stay at a Marriott Courtyard in Cleveland than this place. At least I know that I get what I'm paying for.
I let the front desk know my challenges with my stay and the manager spoke with me afterwards and offered only a half hearted apology.
I don't know how this hotel is in business. We had just come from Lumiares in Lisbon which I can't recommend highly enough. Absolutely top notch, 5* service. Worse than a disappointment. This hotel left me pondering eating my $ and checking in elsewhere when I was hot and uncomfortable trying to sleep late at night. The worst feeling as any traveler knows.
Tofo
Nada
¡Volveremos seguro!
Everything about this hotel was good.
Food served cold, dinner and breakfast.
