More welcoming than I could’ve imagine .

The most endearing part of the story was definitely the whole of the staff,.
We have stayed in hotels all over the world but never experienced the kindness and level of attention that everyone at The Shining offered my wife and I.
It’s located in the Old Quarter exactly where we wanted to be and we are returning shortly.

Nice Boutique hotel in great location close to the lake in the old quarter
Pros:

Nice boutique hotel, minutes to the top of the lake and the rest of the old quarter. We had an adjoining rooms for our family of 4 which had one outer main door and then our own keyed door to the separate room. Breakfast was good, decent amount of selections and if you ask they will make you a Vietnamese iced coffee. The mini pool and bar was nice to cool off in the Hanoi heat. Hannah in particular was very helpful. Recommend

Cons:

One small thing, on check in it was communicated that there would be a 10% fee for room charge when paying by credit card or a 10% discount if settled by cash. I felt this could have been communicated prior to arrival by email as it can be difficult and costly to withdraw the amount needed with the Vietnamese atm limits and fees especially if you can’t access a VP bank atm. Also there was a little pressure to sort by cash which wasn’t welcomed after long travel day when all you want to do is get to your room.
