Pros:

AWFUL, SOULESS, EMPTY FORMER HOTEL.

AWFUL PLACE . AVOID !!!

Columba House is NOT a running hotel. It has not been a hotel for several years but instead has a few very basic rooms that are rented out. There are no staff onsight other than one very rude , very odd, male housekeeping person, that speaks little English, is very intimidating and displays serious mental health anti social behaviour towards guests he encounters.

Cons:

The former hotel is an active building site. It is old, souless, tired and unloved.

The day before check in, Guests receive a text message with a pin code to collect the key from a key safe in an unmanned area just inside the building, and the remainder of the stay, you may have the misfortune of seeing a very rude, very odd and quite menacing male, carrying toilet rolls.

Other than that, there are no hotel staff on site. No hotel facilities, no food or drinks, it is simply a rent a room and off you go , ghost building.

During the week we stayed, No change of towels are provided, the room was not cleaned or hoovered, bins were not emptied, but toilet roll was miraculously provided twice.

It really should be shut down with health and safety inspectors brought in immediately. So many people arrived during the week and left after one night.

Pros:

Good-sized room. Clean and comfortable. Easy access even though there was no staff around. Quiet apart from workmen starting work on the building a bit before 8am. Very reasonably priced.

Cons:

A second pillow would have been appreciated. Also no bin in the bathroom though we did have one two weeks ago when we stayed in another room.

Had booked a twin and was given a double. This was only rectified by asking for an extra mattress to be put on the floor the following day

Cons:

Hotel was having building works and the whole ground floor was full of dust. There were no hotel staff available to discuss problem with

A great stay for using the base for sight seeing .
Pros:

It was clean and comfortable and quiet. We had an outside room so it was very handy to our car.. It had everything we needed for an overnight stay. Check in and check out was straightforward..

Cons:

It was strange not actually seeing any staff about and there is building work going on but we knew this beforehand and it didn't impact us. The poor reviews would have put me off if I had read them first but we found it a positive experience.

Pros:

Mould around the windows and clearly not been cleaned properly in a long time. Not the room paid for either and only some of the rooms are pet friendly. If fact a binding at the front door says no dogs beyond this point. So false advertising as well.
Worst experience of any booking.com accommodation. We didn't stay since it wasn't safe to since me wife has mould allergies. Still waiting for a refund.
