We picked this hotel for its location outside of the city center and on the way to the airport for our last night in Iceland.
Construction on property made parking and finding our way inside difficult. Interior was dark and dated. Room was small and bathroom very small - tub was so high that it was difficult to get in and out of the shower and had to bend over backwards to get under shower head. Breakfast had limited options and no eggs. Coffee cups held about 3 Tablespoons of coffee.
Häftigt byggt, mycket att se i de olika husen.
Bra frukost!

The location is great if you want to stay out of Reykjavik and on way to the KEF.
The owner(s) has spent enormous resources in decorating this hotel and it's attached restaurant. Every corner is Instragram worthy with an amazing range of Viking oriented paraphernalia.
The hotel was across a waterfront and had several restaurants nearby.
The breakfast was spartan with only cold choices but could do for some.
I think the owner focussed on decorations and ambience but not on what's essential for a good hotel. The rooms (Standard Double) were very small for 2 people, there was little room left for bags. The storage and layout made organising clothes/opening bags a big task. The rooms are spartan otherwise and even the bathroom was like that of a cruise ship (or maybe the cruise ships have them bigger!). Only one soap for bath, shampoo and hand wash!
Then the walls were pretty thin, the beds creaked... I'm still scratching my head about what went into the owners/management minds when they made the hotel. If only they had also focussed on making a better hotel than an ornate one.
This was most un-icelandic property in terms of aesthetics, space & furnishing, we stayed at during our 2 week trip.
The location is great, close to the airport.
It’s my second time coming here and I would recommend it especially on the first night in Iceland after landing it’s a great place to stay, have a dinner at the restaurant, and a great buffet breakfast in the morning.
The place itself has a beautiful design that feels like a museum about vikings.
I thought it was quite a charming little Viking hotel, there was construction, so that took away a little bit of the magic, which I wish I would’ve known in advance. There is a Costco that’s not far away, which was a total bonus for my family to see a Costco in a different country.
The sun never really went down so they needed blackout shades in the cottage. It was very cold as my bed was next to the window and I slept in all of my clothes with hats and gloves with a full heat on my kids were upstairs in the attic area where the beds were and they were burning hot as heat rises. So we had two very different temperatures in the little cottage. As far away from everything, but we thought it would be a novel experience to be in a Viking hotel, looking back, maybe it might not be worth a drive out of the way of our plans, but if you are doing the sky lagoon, it’s a practical distance. I also didn’t like that we were jetlagged and wanted to check in an hour earlier. The room was already prepared, but they still charge us an additional €35 to just check in one hour early as if they didn’t already charge us so much for the cottage I think that should’ve been complementary in most hotels that is and I felt like they nickel and dime. Now that I know how expensive Iceland really is I probably would’ve stayed somewhere more more practical, even the property was super cute.
