Pros:

Staff was lovely - everyone was polite and kind. Food was delicious from room service to bar to hotel restaurant.

Cons:

Beds were a little small. Would have liked more space to not feel so cramped. Sleep quality was definitely affected.

2 star hotel at 5 star pricing
Pros:

It is unbelievable to me that this is a 5 star property charging a room rate with a comma. Not. Even. Close. Marriott should be embarrassed that this is the Chicago flagship.
Possibly the worst night of sleep i have had in a hotel in 30 years in sales. Everything here is cheap except the price. From the absolute garbage pillows in your room (that can be switched...for OTHER garbage pillows) right down to the prison grade toilet paper in your bathroom. It’s like staying in a Super 8, but for a grand a night.

Classy, Clean Rooms. Smaller than usual but comfortable
Pros:

Room was very clean. Staff was helpful. The location is absolutely amazing. We walked to broadway and most places in the loop. To go shopping in Michigan avenue it was about a 10 min uber. Restaurant in the building is really good

Cons:

Rooms are smaller compared to other JW Marriott, likely because it is an old building. But they were still comfortable and clean. Staff charged me a different rate than what I paid for in booking and then said I had to figure it out with Booking. So in that sense not very helpful.

Impressive stay
Pros:

This is my second experience at this hotel and was upgraded with a suite night award. The room was luxe, *great* blackout curtains, and a generous sized living room with a giant sofa. The bathroom was also humongous. The breakfast was also quite nice and also open on the weekend. The food offerings at the restaurant in the lobby are expensive but high quality. The lounge evening offerings were also cute, significant, and thoughtfully produced. This hotel signifies one of the best lounge experiences I’ve had in the US and rivals international offerings. The customer service was also noticeably kind across check-in and also the lounge. The hotel made up for my previous problematic initial stay and I can now say I look forward to coming back; I’m glad I gave it a second chance.

We had a room with a courtyard view as opposed to a city view. The price should have included a view.

A stunning Chicago stay!
Pros:

This hotel is gorgeous and the staff are so courteous. It's a short walk away from Millennium Park, amazing food, shops and other activities, and also on the same block as the CTA transit line so getting anywhere across the city is accessible.

Fine place to stay!
Pros:

Good size room with plenty of room to seat 4(had a nice long chaise at end of bed. Very clean!
Delicious breakfast

Cons:

There is a resort fee that if you eat at the hotel you get half of it back. But you must charge to your room.

Exceptional stay — Beautiful Lobby, Seamless Check-in, and an Unforgettable Bar Team
Pros:

My boyfriend and I came into town for a concert and chose the JW Marriott — we’re loyal Marriott people, and this stay reminded us why.
From the moment we arrived, valet was helpful and welcoming. The concierge greeted us warmly and guided us to check-in, and I have to say, the lobby is incredibly beautiful and so spacious.
As a Marriott Bonvoy member, check-in was smooth and effortless. I don’t remember the gentleman’s name, but he was cheerful, professional, and a pleasure to talk to — a great first impression.
The highlight of our stay was the lobby bar. It quickly became our favorite spot. Matt, the bartender, is genuinely outstanding — knowledgeable, friendly, and spot-on with recommendations for both the menu and local spots outside the hotel. When we returned the next day, he remembered my name and our drink orders without hesitation, which made us feel like regulars. Be sure to go see Matt at the bar; he’ll take great care of you.
Special thanks as well to Robert and Diego behind the bar — both so lovely, attentive, and friendly. They helped make the experience memorable.
Overall, an excellent stay with stellar service across the board. We can’t wait to come back.
I also want to add how clean the rooms were and the entire hotel, the noise level no problem especially being right in the city. And the price value of the hotel was very reasonable especially being the 4th of July weekend

Mass transit/subway noise
Pros:

Sound proofing from street noise is an issue some someone sensitive to noise. Can hear subway/mass transit throughout night despite being on 8th floor.

Checkin was rough where room was not available until 4:10 despite my gold elite status. Prefer the marriott long stay hotel in downtown for sleep quietness despite the JW more luxurious amenities

I would not stay here again because quiet sleep is my priority
