First time in Oslo , hotel easily accessible by train direct from airport then just 3 minute walk from station. Team members on reception absolutely charming and very helpful with great recomendations . Room perfect , bathroom spotless and in a very quiet position as requested . Great breakfast , great bar.
We lived in the renovated part of the hotel, which had nice look and smelt of pine wood. Breakfast was not very diverse, but tasty. Very friendly staff.
Awfully noisy because of some African celebration in the park throughout the week of our stay and our suite did not even face park side. Very dusty rooms with little to no vacuum cleaning during 5-day stay! In there room were no water bottles, no spoons, no plates, no slippers. Extremely soft beds. One day forgot to change towels, had to go to main reception to ask for some, as on the phone there is no guidance how to reach out to reception or other staff at the hotel.
We stayed here on our first night in Norway. The bed was super comfortable, shower magnificent, our room and the hotel just beautiful- I love the artworks and location was fabulous for a first exploration! I would definitely stay here again
Fantastic staff, who move quickly to complete any request. Very knowledgeable and willing to share to help you get the best experience in Oslo. Rooms are very comfortable and have an artistic flavour. All round great experience
The location was amazing and the breakfast very good
There was a bad smell in the bathroom and the towels were thin and worn
Highly recommend. Excellent location and it was akin to staying in an art gallery with so many paintings and sculptures on display. Well appointed room and welcoming staff.
Suite and bathroom within were spacious; superb location in the city center; inhouse restaurant does very nice pizza with lovely staff.
Breakfast buffet was VERY cramped; sofa bed was very uncomfortable (you could feel the mattress springs); elevator very slow (they acknowledge it with a cutesy poster, but it's still very slow).
I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Christiania Teater in Oslo. Everything exceeded my expectations. The hotel was spotless, the rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast buffet was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh and delicious options.
What truly made the experience special was the outstanding service. A special thank you to Hendrik and Lone at the reception for their warm welcome, professionalism, and genuine kindness. They made me feel at home from the moment I arrived.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Oslo, and I will definitely stay here again every time I visit the city.
Room
We stayed in a Deluxe Room during this visit. The room was spacious, clean and quiet, overlooking the hotel’s inner courtyard. The bathroom, however, felt a little small compared to the size of the room. It was divided into two areas, and the vanity section was quite dark with no option for additional lighting.
Facilities
The room included a Nespresso machine, a selection of Palais des Thés teas, a minibar (available at an additional cost), and bathroom amenities including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion.
Breakfast
Breakfast offers a good selection of food. We especially appreciated the freshly made coffee available on request, as well as the smoked salmon and Danish rye bread.
Service
What sets this hotel apart is the service. From check-in to check-out, every member of staff we met was welcoming, friendly and professional. We also appreciated the handwritten welcome note waiting in our room, which was a thoughtful touch. After check-out, we used the luggage storage while spending the rest of the day in Oslo, which was very convenient.
Location
The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Oslo. Trains, trams, buses and the metro are all just a short walk away, making it easy to explore the city or travel to and from the airport.
Design
The hotel has a distinctive character, with artwork and sculptures displayed throughout the property. The rooms are stylishly decorated, and details such as the lighting and artwork create a unique atmosphere. We stayed on the fifth floor and enjoyed taking the stairs, giving us the chance to appreciate the interesting collection along the way.
Overall
Christiania Teater is a comfortable, centrally located hotel with attentive service, thoughtful details and a very good breakfast. For a future stay, we would probably choose a room overlooking Spikersuppa, as we preferred both the view and the overall room layout.
I had high hopes based on the photos however the entire experience was a huge disappointment.
Summary:
- rude and incredibly unhelpful staff
- a single lift that takes forever
- lift from second floor will only take you down and not up to your room
- the rooms are dark
- common area floors are filthy
- no management on site
- no rubbish bin in the room
- no room service
- no mattress protector
- drinking glasses left in the bathroom - gross!
While the photos make it look nice, it's actually very dark inside and the floors of the common area are filthy. Aside from the young girl who greeted me upon checkin, the service was appalling.
I was in the lobby having a drink with a friend and there was no staff around except for the person at the downstairs bar and reception so I asked reception which was closer, if she could please come and remove the previous client's dirty glasses so we could enjoy the space. I also didn't want to go back down to the bar and ask the staff member there as he was also super unfriendly. She refused and said that someone from upstairs would be down at some point to do it. I knew by this stage that upstairs had nothing to do with this as it was a separate restaurant so I had to insist. If anything, I would have thought the bar were responsible for tidying up the space of glasses. She made sure she let me know that she was not at all happy at my insistence that she sort out the dirty glasses from the coffee table. I was shocked at this appalling response to a simple client request.
Later in the evening I asked her if she could please put my freezer blocks (to keep medicine cool) into the freezer. Again she refused and told me I had to go upstairs to the restaurant. I said that it was her job to assist customers and she said it wasn't her job and that as the restaurant was a separate owner and NOT part of the hotel, that I would have to do it myself. Shocked yet again.
She made it known quite strongly that the bar and separate restaurant were not part of the hotel and so she was unable to assist with anything to do with those areas. I just couldn't believe what I was hearing and her stubborn refusal to help me out.
Breakfast was another debacle with an incredibly rude staff member who refused to listen to me when I was trying to ask if I could get a late. I first asked him if he could please clean my table from the previous clients whereby he waved me away and I was left standing, not knowing what was going on, while he walked off letting me know that he was not happy I had asked him to do that job and as if it was beneath him. I stood around waiting for an extended period of time while he sorted out the table so I could finally also ask him my second question, to which he again just walked off and I had to raise my voice and ask "am I supposed to follow you?" to which he replied yes. Seriously? He knew which table I was going to be sitting at - he could have made the late and brought it to me. He made me stand by his side and wait for my coffee. By this stage I was disgusted at the treatment I had received from him and the girl from the previous evening.
I would recommend avoiding this hotel to anyone until they get their staffing right and sort out their discombobulated arrangement with the bar and restaurant.
Room service - there is none BUT you can oder direct from the restaurant and they will deliver to your room. The only place that offered actual service. The veggie pizza was absolutely delicious and the ice-cream divine and home made. I was so incredibly impressed at the quality of seemingly simple fare which they had turned into something mouth watering and seriously delicious. They were also incredibly helpful and lovely when I needed to sort out my freezer items. These guys get the 5 star review for their service and food :)
The two stars are for the room and restaurant only and reflect the shocking service and the poor cleanliness of the hotel overall.
Perfect location. Excellent hotel name ( prior to being named Oslo, the city was called Christiania ) and a good nod to the past. Breakfast was Norwegian and excellent. Great coffee. I have been visiting Oslo for much of my life and this hotel has always been a feature.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had a wonderful stay at the Christiania Teater Hotel in Oslo. The hotel is beautiful, elegant, and perfectly located for exploring the city. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and made our vacation even more enjoyable.
A special thank you to Hendrik and the entire staff for their outstanding hospitality. Everyone was incredibly kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. Their professionalism and genuine friendliness made us feel at home from the moment we arrived.
Thank you for making our stay in Oslo so special. We will always remember your kindness and hope to return again in the future. Highly recommended!
Excellent breakfast, much choice, typically Norwegian.
In-house restaurant, under separate management, had pizza only option for evening meal, albeit red and white styles.
This hotel was very comfortable in an excellent location. Very close to everything I wanted to go see. The room was nice and the staff was very helpful. It was particularly hot in Oslo during my time there and even though I had an air fan, it was still uncomfortably warm in my room. The young man at the front desk brought me up a different air fan which worked MUCH better and solved the issue. I also really appreciated all the art in the stairway!
