Pros:

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, they were very good with our dogs. The carvery was very good and the creamy parsnip dish was amazing. There was an atmosphere of old world charm, with carpeting throughout giving a cosy homely feel. The hotel dates from the sixteenth century and it must be a huge task to keep it maintained and in working condition. The gardens are beautifully arranged and it looks like an amazing venue for weddings and special occasions.

Cons:

If you want minimalist sleek hotel rooms with no personality this isn't the place for you. This hotel is full of personality, with creaky floorboards. Interesting artwork, wonky doors and windows - but it all works and is comfortable and clean.

The staff and food and place is brilliant. Very nice place and so welcoming.

In our room the toilet didn't work properly and the water pressure was not good. Also some of the laps didn't work.

Pros:

The breakfast was good other than that it wasn't a pleasant stay.

Cons:

The staff were generally unhelpful. The building is old and the rooms and bathrooms are dated. The floors creak throughout the building. I arrived very late and had to wait until a member of staff woke up and came to answer the door. The beds are ok but the pillows and duvet were very light and didn't offer a good night sleep. I think I would choose a larger chain during my next stay.

Pleasant outside in the sunshine, but rooms and facilities need much love.
Pros:

Looks beautiful. Great setting. Friendly staff.

Cons:

Rooms and stairways needed tlc. King bed was just two singles pushed together. Hot water took ages to appear. Water pressure was very weak resulting in poor shower and extremely long wait to fill bath.

Pros:

The staff were friendly. The location was ideal. The building in itself looked lovely but the feel is very much a hotel time forgot

Breakfast was also nice.

Cons:

Every step the floor creaked, the floor boards were uneven. The shower made an awful high pitched noise when using it. The hot water was scolding hot which burnt my husband there was no sign to say be careful. Not sure if it was because it hadn't been used for awhile but there was also a strong egg smell when using the bathroom for the first couple of times. And lastly the bed was a divan base, very soft mattress with a wooden bed frame from a completely different bed around the base. When sitting up the head of the wooden frame broke, I had to put it back together the remaining frame was very flimsy, not really sure what the point was. Our room was at the bottom of a set of stairs so very noisy and did not feel like a private room.
