Clean /tidy tea coffee
Well stocked mini bar
Great location!
Not huge fan of the carpets on floor, very old and bathroom had some yellow stains, either rust or just because it was an old building
Freundliches Personal, gute Lage
Sehr kleines Zimmer

The smell of the room
The poor lighting
Great location, nicely presented rooms
Room hot and no AC
Excellent location and staff very friendly and helpful.
Room don’t feel “luxury” as described but did the job and no issues with it for a 2 night stay.
Lovely staff great location comfy bed always clean will keep returning each time I visit York
The bathroom was a little run down rusty radiator and and in need of a paint
Stunning property in a super convenient position.
The steep stairs 😞
Fantastic location, great character and friendly staff
Fantastic location in a very quiet street, just outside the old town. Our bed was very comfortable and I enjoyed a lovely bath. Lots of lovely coffee shops and food options nearby. Would definitely stay again.
DISAPPOINTING and certainly not 5 star as rated on Booking.com.
Great location
Room standard poor- flaky paint, stained ceiling, damaged walls, pictures missing from walls, no full length mirror and have to be 6ft tall to see in bathroom. Dirty plug in bath, warm fridge and handles missing on drawers.
Wished we had stayed somewhere else. Plus parking for 2 days £50 in recommended carpark!
Overall this was definitely one of the nicer hotels we’ve stayed in, we couldn’t fault our room apart from the heat and the noise. I wish my bedroom at home looked as nice! It’s in a beautiful location overlooking the park, the hotel is spotlessly clean and the rooms are very stylish inside.
The customer service issues ruined our stay. Having reflected on it, I am deducting another star because the experience simply was not up to par, and we would not stay here again.
Key Feedback & Tips for Guests:
Toddler Accommodations: No travel cots are provided, so our toddler had to share our bed.
Accessibility: Despite requesting a ground-floor room for our pram, we were placed on an upper floor with no lift, forcing us to carry it up two flights of stairs.
Temperature & Noise: The room was stuffy and warm (staff provided a fan, but it stayed hot), and we heard doors slamming and noise until 11:00 PM. Signs reminding guests to close doors quietly would help.
Amenities: Our TV remote was broken, so we couldn't use the TV.
Check-In Issues:
The biggest downside was an unadvertised £100 security deposit policy. The card machine rejected our cards for the deposit—despite just taking payment for the room balance on one of them.
After 15 stressful minutes on a hot day with a tired toddler, we were asked for £100 cash. We eventually resolved it by having a family member give their card details over the phone to hold for the deposit.
Demanding cash or forcing us to wait instead of using common sense to let us rest and resolve it later was unacceptable. Clearer communication about deposit rules and better flexibility when technology fails are badly needed.
Summary: A gorgeous, well-maintained hotel in a great location, but severely let down by poor customer service. Double-check your room allocation and deposit requirements before arriving!
