Location, room, staff, facilities
There could be more food options.
Absolutely beautiful location and super friendly smiling staff. The pool was almost always quiet with just a few families with kids at the weekend. Restaurant food was delicious and the buffet breakfast was superb. We loved the sunset boat with snacks organised by Hotel, and one evening we also arranged for a sunset boat from town to drop us off at the property. The garden view room very spacious, although it was a shame our room didn’t have a fridge.
Access to the resort was down a very bumpy tiny road, but of course this did make it more secluded and quiet.
Excellent food.
Great facilities.
Clean place.
Rooms could've been bigger.
The access roads are ridiculously narrow..
Property is good, shikara ride is not to miss.
Very very limited options in Dinner especially veg.
The property itself is undeniably beautiful and serene, with well-maintained grounds that create a peaceful atmosphere. Our room was spacious, clean, and truly impressive, adding a lot of comfort to our stay. The staff was helpful and responsive. When we faced WiFi issues, they immediately arranged a personal WiFi device for us, which was a thoughtful touch. Overall, the resort gives a premium first impression, and we noticed that many locals were genuinely impressed when we mentioned we were staying at Punnamada.
Despite the hype around the resort, the overall experience didn’t fully match our expectations. Almost all activities inside and around the property shut down by 5–6 pm, which left the evenings feeling quite limited. Several activities mentioned, such as cycling and canoeing, were also not available during our stay.
The food was good, and although the description of the resort mentions that Choola Restaurant serves local specialities and a good selection of international wines, there was no liquor available at the resort at all, which felt quite misleading. We were especially hoping for more authentic Kerala seafood instead of a menu that tries to cover too many global cuisines.
Additionally, even though the resort seemed largely empty, we were allocated a room at the far end of the property, and the pathway lights in that section were often left switched off, making it inconvenient to return to the room after dark.
The staff were amazing. So friendly and welcoming. The backwater tour as part of the stay was great. The gardens and pool were kept well. Food was good.
I wouldn't consider this accommodation as a resort.
No alcohol at the resort even though it was advertised on the website. So forget cocktails by the pool or a glass of wine with your meal.
Everything was tired and worn. The resort needs a refresh with paint and to replace all the old broken things. The pool chairs were split, the tennis court nets - destroyed. The towels were old. The bathrobes were brown with stains and had obviously shrunk in the wash and unwearable. Bedsheets were yellow/brown. The room was not serviced. You were not provided with bottled water, you had to trust the water in the container was filtered, that can be scary in India.
The nature, lake right infront, the architecture and food. Special appreciation to the service staff at restaurant for accommodating the kids, Reji who helped kids in fishing, and the housekeeping team. Check in and check out was smooth
The mosquitoes, wish reception had alerted the use of repellent while check in.
What an amazing, beautiful resort. The most peaceful place I have stayed during my travels in India. The staff team were incredible - so caring and helpful. I felt really looked after. The food was lovely and the resort is of a high standard. Beautiful heritage buildings that are well maintained and restored. Modern facilities in a building steeped in history. The grounds are immaculate and the pool is beautiful. I recommend guests to go on the Punnamada Shikara boat tour (book at reception) and try Kayaking with Nadodi Kayaking as well as a canoe ride with Alleppey Village Canoeing to see the peaceful backwaters where large boats can’t reach (reception can arrange or just look up on google )
Wireless did not reach my room (low signal).
The ambience was very good and the resort was well maintained

Unfortunately, our experience was far below expectations for a supposed 4-star facility:
The swimming pool was not operational, which was one of the main reasons we chose this property.
There were no proper activities for kids, making it unsuitable for a family-friendly stay.
The room cleanliness could have been much better.
Staff response was slow, and we faced delays in basic service requests.
The dining options were extremely limited.
Wi-Fi connectivity was poor, affecting even basic browsing.
The property overall did not match the advertised standards or images.
Street dogs are around, which is scary.
For the price paid, the experience was very disappointing.
We arrived to find the pool was still closed after the monsoon season which we weren't informed of in advance and was a real selling point of the hotel. This was odd as other pools including the public pool in the area we're open. Additionally we were told only when we asked about it that the onsite bar was closed for renovations and we're recommended to go to a competitor hotel to use their bar. In general the staff were quite apathetic that the resort was not ready for visitors and although we really enjoyed the boat tour and the views were lovely this wasn't the stay we had hoped for. If amenities are closed some pre warning feels necessary.
