Ok !great location but in my optinion certainly not 5 stars
Pros:

The grand looks very grand although the entrance/ check in feels quite cramped, it’s an old office block/ railway headquarters conversion that has been very well transferred to hotel status I liked how spacious the rooms and corridors felt

Cons:

The back facing rooms are noisy with deliveries early morning and generators running 24/7. I thought it was expensive to use the spa and unfair to charge guests to use the swimming pool. The £50 per night deposit taken at point of check in after already paying in full
seems a bit arbitrary the hotel already has the card payment details! Also a 6 day wait to get that refunded after our stay.

Pros:

Beautiful hotel and room very spacious.

Cons:

You now have to pay to use the spa for 90 minutes, whereas in the past when we've stayed it was included in the price. This makes your stay very expensive and would put us off staying again!!
Not all the staff were friendly and helpful particularly in the bar, even though it was very quiet.

Lovely stay in central York!
Pros:

Beautiful building. Very large room. Clean with good facilities. Lifts to floors. Clean and welcoming.

The staff was a bit indifferent and the bar tenders seemed inexperienced and particularly indifferent. I had visions of a delightful drink before dinner that didn’t materialize
