The New Inn is a Grade I listed building, and has no disabled facilities. Bedrooms are located on the 1st and 2nd floors.
Check in times from 14:00 to 21:00. Late check ins only by prior arrangement.
The nearest car park is Kings Walk (GL1 1EA) which is at the rear of the property.
High vans should use Hare Lane North car park (GL1 1DF). It is free between the hours of 18:00 and 07:00 and costs GBP 3 per day Monday - Saturday and GBP 2 for Sundays.
Passengers and luggage may be dropped off at the back door in New Inn Lane - close to Kings Walk car park.
Please Note: The New Inn provides live music on a Friday night between 9pm & midnight and Karaoke on a Saturday night between 8pm & midnight - please be aware this is a city center hotel / bar and it can get noisy on the weekendsPlease inform of your expected arrival time in advance. Location was next to event I was going to. Cooked bfreakfast was also enjoyable. Room was basic but had the main facilities. Good value for money.
Did not have any real ales but there were pubs around the corner that did. Stairs could be slippery after rain but it did not rain.

The promise of being surrounded by a sense of history was fulfilled and exceeded. The property is operational on modern terms, but the 15th C envelopes you at every turn. It was wonderful!

The courtyard was fascinating, and is well worth visiting for a drink because it is a beautifully preserved example of the type of place that Shakespeare would have taken his troupe of players.
I don't blame the New Inn for this, but rather Roomsbooked/Booking.com whom I consider were blatantly price-gouging. I booked my room online and although I considered it to be expensive at the time, I thought it must be pretty special. I was charged GBP383 for 2 nights in what turned out to be a poky, hot, run-down single room without even a glass for water. That is an outrageous price! It was up two flights of rickety stairs and along endless narrow corridors to the very back of the hotel with an outlook over a drab lightwell, where the "free" WiFi didn't work and there was not even enough room to put the suitcase off the floor. The blurb said that the hotel was full of ghosts but it would have been a lucky ghost that fitted into this room as there barely room for me. I then discovered that on the website of the New Inn itself, the most expensive suite in the place, equipped with a four-poster bed etc, cost less that I had been charged. To add insult to injury, I had to pay for my rather ordinary breakfast. Of course, I knew that breakfast was not included but at the price I was paying, I could have expected to have been served a full English breakfast by Shakespeare himself. I have sent emails to both booking companies and received no reply, let alone any refund. I will certainly never book anything through booking.com again.
Process straight forward
The New Inn is situated in the centre part of the town. Was only 10 minute walk from Railway Station. Short walk to the Quays and the Cathedral. Staff was welcoming and the bar looked clean. Our room was basic but kept to the character of the building. We ate twice in the bar and it was nice.
We were aware that all rooms were situated upstairs but as the steps were outside we felt that in bad wet weather they could be dangerous as they were very steep. However, there is a sign warning people of this. Our bathroom was very basic i.e. did not include any shelves to put toiletries on. The extractor fan was very old and noisy. No wall handles in the shower that was situated above the bath, so it made it difficult getting in and out without slipping.
