I will say that the hotel staff were polite and friendly throughout our stay, and they did try to help where they could. However, the hotel’s overall condition needs significant improvement.
I was very disappointed with my stay at the Carlton Hotel in Tunisia. Unfortunately, it was one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in.
The problems started before we even arrived. While we were at the airport on our way to the hotel, I checked Booking.com and noticed that the hotel had already taken payment for the first night’s stay without informing us in advance. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told we needed to pay the remaining balance, but the amount didn’t match what we expected because the charges had not been clearly disclosed on the Booking.com app. It turned out we had been charged for a double room when our booking included one single room and one double room.
Things became even more stressful after we checked in. We received a phone call from reception saying our payment hadn’t been covered, so we rushed downstairs in a panic. We then discovered that the receptionist had accidentally checked us in under someone else’s booking, which resulted in us being overcharged. Thankfully, the extra amount was refunded, but it caused unnecessary stress at the start of our holiday.
Unfortunately, the issues didn’t end there. When we entered our room, we found hair on the bed linen, dust covering the furniture, a shower hose that leaked badly, stained pillowcases, and a strong smell of mildew throughout the room. I had to go out of my way to find housekeeping and ask them to replace the bedding, which should have been clean before our arrival.
I will say that the hotel staff were polite and friendly throughout our stay, and they did try to help where they could. However, the hotel’s overall condition needs significant improvement.
Another inconvenience was exchanging money. The hotel was unable to accept card payments for currency exchange and instead directed us to the Radisson Blu, which was unexpected and inconvenient.
