An amazing place, such a beautiful building! Shops, cafe and patisserie close by.
The only good thing about this hotel is the exterior which is very grand but once you get beyond the front door it rapidly goes downhill in almost every respect. Quite possibly a genuine spa hotel at some point many years ago but left to deteriorate and now shabby in many ways. Difficult to understand how they remain operational with so few facilities available.
Where to start really. Staff could not have been more disinterested upon arrival and the reception desk is only open between very limited hours so it's pure luck we even got to see anyone as they shut the reception desk again not long after we arrived. The most minimal of bar options with only one white Belgian beer on offer and a small selection of soft drinks and no ice, ideal during a heatwave. Room whilst large showed signs of disrepair and neglect with ill fitting curtains allowing light in, dated bathroom, a fridge that didn't work and air conditioning with all the power of an aged asthmatic. 'Spa' facilities of a small, unkempt pool, tepid sauna and non operational steam room leading to a small courtyard immediately adjacent to the bin store. No actual spa reception and no one seemingly the tiniest bit interested in offering any of the purported spa services. Avoid breakfast as they charge 14 euros to provide the most basic continental breakfast which by the time we arrived had no remaining fresh bread, a tired and clearly old baguette and no hot food whatsoever. Go into La Rochelle for far better options at a lower cost. Hotel is also situated a couple of miles outside La Rochelle so be prepared to have to spend 40-50 euros a night to cover taxis. Overall very disappointing and not remotely how the hotel is portrayed online. Would definitely not return and would recommend finding alternative options as Hotel et SPA du Chateau is a long time past its sell by date.
Quite location near the airport
Not much happening need to travel into town for food or drinks a bar and food for guests might bring in more income for the hotel
We like the comfortable bed and the air conditioning in the room
It was a very suburban location, rather tired grounds, odd not to be able to dine in the dining room but having instead to eat dinner in the bedroom. The curtains were not well hung so there was a gap letting the light in
