The Manor Hotel

I was expecting a double bed but had 2 singles pushed together, housekeeping hadn't put the topper on so I sank into the middle a lot, which wasn't great as I really needed that night's sleep!

The WiFi went down the morning I had paid for a late checkout, so I left earlier than expected but the staff were very understanding.

The leisure centre is nice to have, but it's a tiny pool and beware if children are in there divebombing at the same time as you want a swim (they don't seem to restrict access for families the way a leisure centre might).

Don't be fooled by the promise of stunning views, there's a whole corridoor with views of the roof over the kitchen and my room was weirdly hot as a result of being above said kitchen.

All that in mind, the staff were so kind and hardworking and a lot of the above is out of their control, you cannot fault the customer service.

There was nothing i didn't like. Really had a great stay

Pool very small and when I arrived was full do that was a teeny bit disappointing for me :-) bed a tad soft for me - but both these things are personal so shouldn't stop others booking

Food generally small portions and not particularly good taste for value at almost £20 a meal. Breakfast was average. Staff seemed busy, maybe understaffed? Room was clean but bits of carpet cut away, loose hooks, wonky bathroom mirror etc.

We checked in around 7pm, told by staff member at the desk that we were the last ones to check in and that she shouldn’t still be at reception but had to be to wait for us. I wouldn’t say we were particularly late.

Chose to sit in the dining room for dinner, but after having sat down and realised how dark and warm the area was, we decided we would have been better sitting in the dining areas where it was a bit cooler so I said to the server that we’d made a mistake choosing to sit there and we were going to move to the outside seating, the restaurant was quiet at this stage, we were told that would not be possible as we’d already chose to sit inside, that it would mean the server having to walk further outside with the food and that it would be dark (it was darker in the dining area for at least another hour and a half), this is at 8pm in August. We remained seated and ordered, whilst waiting for our food we watched the same server a few times go outside to serve food and take an order etc.

Staff gave the feeling that we were in the way of a wedding party; we were asked to book a breakfast table as soon as we arrived at the hotel in the evening because they needed to have space for the wedding party.

We arrived for breakfast at the time we arranged, 10 seconds later whilst we were getting hot drinks before we even went into the main breakfast area and chose a table to sit, we were approached again and told we needed to tell them our order now because they were due to have the wedding party in for breakfast and they would be busy.

Not that I didn’t like it but Just a little tired in places

The whole hotel is looking very tired & needs a lot of maintenance and upgrading. Our room was in the awful add-on extension & just a standard room but nothing special even though we paid an upgrade for a superior room. And sadly we didn’t have the amazing view despite paying an upgrade. The bathroom was very basic. The tap was broken & lights didn’t work. The room was boiling (not the hotel’s fault that it was a super hot weekend) 2 fans were supplied which was good but 1 was extremely noisy. There were not enough staff - they are all trying to do their best (& most double up on jobs) but things like making up your room was not really done - bed sort of made & that was it. Our dirty cups were left on the tray so I went to find the chamber maid to ask if we could have clean ones - I was told to go down to reception & get them myself or wash them up in the sink! Not really what you expect when you pay over £200 for the room. Our breakfast also took nearly an hour one morning as we were forgotten. We did get an apology. There is a cocktail list - but we were told they hadn’t got time or didn’t know how to make them. Tables outside are lovely - but never cleared. The pool/spa is urgent need of an upgrade. Not sure the steam room is legal!

Unfortunately, on some of the hottest nights of the year, air-conditioning units in bedrooms didn't work.

There are not many staff members, and so on occasion, it was a long wait at reception (for example), but honestly, that's a bit unfair as everyone was working hard across the hotel, and we weren't in a particular hurry.

On a very hot day the rooms were almost too hot to be in, the fan and ac units too small to be efficient. The breakfast was very underwhelming.
