Fines Bayliwick Hotel

Trots beskrivningen erbjöd hotellet varken frukost eller annan förtäring/dricka, samtidigt som det var obekvämt att äta på rummet då lämpligt bord, husgeråd, kyl saknades. Vi hade dock kåsor och bestick med oss, och tack vare att det finns ett par små livsmedelsaffärer i byn, klarade vi oss. Även rummets städning har förbättringspotential: spindelväv hängde från taket, garderoben var dammig, ventilationen i badrummet och golvskenorna till duschkabinen var smutsiga och avloppet drog dåligt. Tvättfatet saknade propp så det gick inte att blanda varmt/kallt vatten. Även vattenkokaren var smutsig och dess värmeslingor täckta av svart beläggning som fjällde svarta flagor i vattnet. Vi hade förväntat oss ett enkelt rum - men ändå rent - för det billiga priset.

The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned. Toothpaste on taps and in sink and urine drips on toilet and floor next to toilet.

I honestly don’t know where to begin with how bad this hotel was.

From the moment I walked into the room, it was clear that basic cleanliness just isn’t a priority here. The place was filthy, not just a bit tired or worn, but properly dirty. There were old, used towels and even someone else’s socks left in the wardrobe, which is just unacceptable.

The surfaces hadn’t been cleaned properly either. There were coffee stains everywhere, cigarette ash sitting on the bedside table, and the whole room felt neglected and unhygienic.

It somehow got worse in the bathroom. Instead of actual shower gel, there was a bottle of Carex handwash left in the shower and to top it off, the shower didn’t even work properly. So not only was it poorly maintained, it wasn’t even functional.

The most shocking part? I found drugs in the room. That alone raises serious concerns about safety, let alone the complete lack of proper housekeeping checks.

This wasn’t just a disappointing stay, it felt careless, unclean, and genuinely concerning. I would strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to think twice. There are basic standards you expect anywhere, and this place didn’t come close to meeting them.

I checked in on Monday 13th but left immediately due to the condition of the room. The bedding at the end of the bed was visibly soiled with what appeared to be blood or bodily fluids when turned over, which is completely unacceptable. In addition, the headboard was thick with dust, the walls were dirty, and the overall cleanliness of the room was far below a basic standard.

I raised this straight away with reception, handed the keys back, and did not stay in the room at all. While an alternative room was mentioned, given the condition of the first room, I had no confidence in the overall hygiene of the property and chose to leave. From reading over reviews it’s evident they have major hygiene issues and total lack of care. They are being reported to local environmental health team for further investigation.

The hotel has since disputed the issues and refused a refund, even though I have time stamped videos and photos.

Decor feels very tired although we had everything we needed.

No hot water in the hand basin. A shower unit placed so high I would have had to jump to reach the top controls. In the other room the tube to the shower head was broken. A wonderful dining-room was no longer open to guests. No room service was available but help was given to us for ordering a take away. But there was no table or second chair in the room. The exterior and interior paintwork of the building was shabby. I appreciate that hotels are experiencing difficult times and maintenance and staff costs are too high. This beautiful building deserves better!
