It is a FIVE star boutique hotel: definitely NOT.
Batavia is nothing more than an averageTHREE star guesthouse.
Room no 7 was ice cold.
No slippers or bathrobes were provided.
Coffee machine is provided, but no Coffee pods?
Tee cups dated out of 1920/ 1930’s? Very old and stained.Towels are washed out. Bar fridge was not stocked as per the list.
European 2 point plug was not provided for the hairdryer.The duvet is extremely old , the inside filling has nearly disintegrated.
I can go on and on…… Batavia needs an urgent facelift.😭😭😭😭😭

Pros:

Convenient, clean, safe, warm.
Tv remote wasn't working well, could have been the battery, channels limited, only one coffee pod per person, but the Sherry was a nice touch, thank you!

Wonderful little boutique hotel!
Pros:

Well situated. Extremely friendly staff. He was so helpful with booking taxi for tours and things. So cozy room, decorated old style, as is the hotel.

Cons:

Breakfast is good but its a small hotel so a bit limited. It was good though.

Best place to stay while you are in Stellenbosch
Pros:

Centrally located. Close to restaurants, museums, parks and bars. Very safe to walk around at night
Tembe, the manager on duty was very attentive and informative. The breakfast served was amazing and the property was beautifully done up

Adams Family House

The Batavia Guest House was a very confusing place. It looked like it had been designed for the Addams Family. The room was spacious but furnished in a very strange way, with a huge, intimidating wardrobe and an oversized bathroom that was freezing cold, with glass doors that offered little privacy.

The room had a strong musty, damp smell that made it feel old and neglected. Overall, I would never stay there again, especially because you can find wonderful accommodations just a minute away for less money.

The entire property felt cold, outdated, and far from charming. The décor was filled with very corny art pieces that only added to the odd atmosphere.

Parfaite harmonie entre charme et confort !
Pros:

Cet établissement est meublé et décoré avec beaucoup de goût. Tout est parfaitement entretenu, harmonieux et de grande qualité. On s'y sent immédiatement à l'aise. Le personnel est d'une grande amabilité et très compétent, toujours disponible et attentif aux besoins des clients. Une adresse que je recommande sans hésitation.

What a lovely stay we had here at the Batavia Hotel. Rooms were well appointed and spacious. Beds were comfortable and lovely bathroom. A great home base for visits to and around the Stellenbosch area.
