We’ve been twice there and venue is absolutely stunning. A true dive in history.
Great gardens and eating conservatory.
Definitely not very suited to the hot summer months. The rooms were warm and not air conditioned.
Our winter experience was much better.
Some bits and details are quite tired and could use a refurb
Original features, the old grand majestic feel of the place, the grounds surrounding the hotel
We booked an overnight stay for our wedding anniversary. 33 years. We had a banner on the door of our room & a balloon & card inside the room. After our evening meal we were given a plate from the chief with happy anniversary written in chocolate plus some small pieces of fruit. We thought it was a lovely touch & made the stay even better. Staff were polite, friendly & nothing was too much trouble.
We had afternoon tea to start off our celebrations. Some of it was a little bit too fancy for us & had to leave it. A little more choice for price would have been better. We still enjoyed the experience.
Location, design, rooms and staff were all brilliant
The no warning automatic parking charge, 75 quid for two nights, and I don’t even drive?!
This is a lovely hotel if you like the quirky, which I do, The restaurant is really nice, relaxed dining and the staff very attentive.
Whilst I like the period features in the room there needs to be a little more attention to the serviceability and maintenance. The wash basin Cold water flow was just a trickle and the selector for the Bath/Shower did not work so it was shower or nothing.
Lovely overnight stay. Faultless!
Wedding venue excellent
Beautiful castle from the outside
The room service is overpriced and absolutely disgusting. Most definitely the worst steak sandwich I’ve ever had. It’s all red and gloomy, the rooms were dusty and need updating, especially the facilities inside the room. It was extremely hot and they gave me a fan that barely even worked, I understand that since it’s a very old castle, there is no AC, but this is the 21st-century, you should have updated fans. From the inside, it’s extremely crowded a bunch of random furniture everywhere very dusty.. I ordered a cola and it was old. It wasn’t even fizzing anymore and they put it in a large beer cup. The fountain outside is extremely dirty and smelly. The plants are extremely ugly and need updating. It’s a beautiful location from outside. There is no reason why the plants should be dead or dying. Also, it’s very hard to find the elevator. Especially when you’re upstairs in your room already the exterior of the elevator is painted red like the walls so it’s impossible to find. I would like to add that the roots are extremely dark, and the light barely works, please have better lighting the bulbs are dimmed yellow so it’s impossible to see. There is a small lake around the castle. Well, it’s not really a lake. It’s just a body of water under the castle and it smells disgusting.
Beautiful room, well furnished and very clean. Hotel lovely with many unusual features. Food, good choice of menu, well cooked and presented.
Nothing.
Good setting, interesting building. Has a moat. Large room. Quiet. Nice garden room extension for restaurant.
Very tired. Impossible to clean it properly. Decor is 30 years out of date. Very weird reception area that makes no sense. Vertical and horizontal access routes Thoroughly obscured by previous uses - for example there is a confessional near the lift and a pulpit up near the ceiling by reception. Weird. Telephone in room not working. Old screw holes in the walls not repaired or disguised. No air conditioning. Food very hit and miss. Offered warm white wine one night and waiter surprised I wanted it cooled. But he did it.
The only criticism I have is the fact that there are is no fridge and microwave in the room. Apart from that everything else is excellent
Location was great to visit our relatives
Lovely room with a nice view. Loved walking around the grounds
The walk around the abbey
Comfortable bed
