*Front Counter / Reception staff were exceptional and friendly
*Restaurant services were great, good service and not pushing you out the door to fill the seat/table
*TV system was easy to navigate and find the channels I wanted to watch
*Gym was small but effective
*Close to Newcastle beach and the walk around to Nobbys was great at 6am, refreshing, calming and peaceful
*Room was not clean, what looked like red wine stains on the couch, bathroom smelt like mould and stains on the carpet throughout the room.
*Iron in the cupboard had the fill point broken off so when I ironed my clothes for the funeral, I was attending the water spilt out over my shirt and pants but had not choice then to continue as I had to have them ironed and presentable
*Food for most part was okay, I had what was reheated potatoes with my scotch fillet so that put a damper on what was a great piece of steak, Potatoes when cooking for masses are easy, microwave a raw potato for 10min with fork prong holes in it the cut halfway through and bake for 10min on 180deg, it's easier to get this wrong then right,
*Parking at $35/night is over the top, and the signage to find the carpark is not explicit or visible so i drove around King Street for a while then headed back and asked for directions then realising it was attached to the residential apartments next door with no reference to Novotel outside the entrance
*No Tap Beer or Cider, everything bottled.

I asked for a room with a bath which was arranged.
Spa was broken/out of order. No mini bar.
Garbage trucks arrived at 5am and crashed and banged for 25 mins smashing glass etc

Very disappointed for the amount paid per night there was no water in the fridge no complimentary biscuits. The room had an odour .

We were upgraded to a nicer room with a balcony a view and complimentary wine and cheese plate plus late checkout
We originally had a room that was very standard no balcony view of carpark very underwhelming .The phone didn’t work and the door handle broke and we were locked in the room.
Modern facilities great spot easy access to bike and walking paths and secure parking.

I stay regularly at Novotel and other Accor properties and, as a Platinum member, unfortunately found my experience at Novotel Newcastle very disappointing.
On arrival there were no bottles of water in the fridge. When I contacted reception, I was told that this hotel does not provide water in the fridges. After explaining that I was an Accor Platinum member, two bottles of water were eventually provided.
There was also no welcome gift or recognition of my Platinum status. I was later advised that the hotel’s system was showing me as Gold because I had originally made the booking while I held Gold status, despite being Platinum at the time of my stay.
What concerned me most was being unable to contact reception after approximately 5:40pm. After several unanswered calls, I went to reception in person and found nobody at the desk.
Management subsequently responded to my complaint, apologised for the issues and offered a 20% discount on a future stay, which I appreciate. However, the overall experience fell well below what I have experienced at other Novotel properties and what I would expect from the brand.
Unfortunately, I won’t be staying at Novotel Newcastle again.
