We chose the hotel principally for the location and as a treat, it exceeded all expectations and we had a thoroughly great time. We'll be back 😁
Could have done to check in earlier but not an issue as the hotel was central and we were able to store our baggage.I
Breakfast was standard. Not a fan of making my own coffee or toast.
TV in room needed fixing and it took 30 mins for maintenance to arrive. One bedside light was not working. Bath very slippery to have a shower.
Location and friendly staff.
We were given a room in the townhouse. From our opinion it is due some maintenance. Broken window handles, general cleanliness of the bathroom could do with attention. The temperature during our stay was 23deg C.. the room was sickly hot with no or flow. So bare in mind this hotel has no AC. When searching for a hotel. Booking.com said this hotel included limited but free parking, quite the opposite at £25 per night.
The staff were awesome! Emily in particular was exceptional, she managed to get the room ready for 1 o'clock so we didn't have to wait until 4 for check in, and she arranged for chocolates and balloons to be in our room as it was our 10th anniversary. She kept me up to date with emails so I had nothing to worry about leading up to our stay. Overall, the staff were really great, couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast was great too. Thank you.
The room was really hot when we arrived as the air conditioning didn't work, they did offer us a different room, but as we were only staying 1 night, and I had already unpacked, we decided to stay in the room. It was quite a noisy room though as we had to have the windows open to cool the room down, so we could hear the road all night and people having a good time on the street!
We were a little disappointed with the choice of food in the restaurant for dinner, and for how much we received for the cost. It was rather expensive for a really small portion of food. The lighting in the room could do with some tweaking, it was rather dull when I was trying to put my makeup on! Otherwise, it was a nice stay.
Very close to the city centre and the room was located in an annex building which was something a bit different.
Absolutely nothing
Nothing
Horrendous hotel for the money, £607 for 3 nights!!!!. Aircon or heater which ever way was broken. Stand alone fan in middle of room meaning no space to move around. Terrible brown/red stains on carpet. Bed was something to behold!!!, absolute BRICK. no window to open. Window box was separated by plastic windows which didn't slide properly. Upstairs were other guests, however the walking around in their room, we heard in our heads how loud it was and we felt in our bodies as it was tha
The location was perfect, right beside one of the main gates of the old city wall. The room was small, but located in a quiet area, with a very comfortable bed and a lovely bathroom. There was air conditioning in the room which had been switched on for our arrival, so our room, on a hot summer day, was a cool, welcoming oasis. The receptionist on our arrival was very helpful and friendly.
Everything
The parking
The location
The hotel room was below par for a 4 star hotel. Broken furniture and unclean shower area. The half board menu was limited and not enjoyable at all. The hotel claims to be dog friendly but there was no dog water bowl outside or bins for waste on site. On check out the reception staff did not ask if our stay was enjoyable. Very poor service in comparison to other Hilton doubletree hotels as I travel for business often. Disappointed with our stay as a whole and I feel let down that our trip was ruined by poor quality surroundings.
We were sceptical at first after we read the bad comments we had a great stay got to check in early free parking with a blue badge the room we had was an accessible one couldn't fault it we will be back
Great hotel, good location
A bit pricey
Location was great for us
This wasnt a 4 star hotel it was so dirty and run down the bathroom had mold around the bath, ceiling and parts od the bathroom wood was swollen and cracked. The carpet in the bedroom was shredded, the room had a fan which was so dusty the dust blew out all over the bed I am asthmatic so this caused me to suffer badly with my chest, I had to request twice for a new fan, the air conditioning unit in the bedroom didn't work which we found the room unbearable with the heat. The lighting above the bed didnt work. The bathroom extractor didn't work which added moisture to the bathroom and bedroom, the room smelt damp and musty.
At breakfast the coffee machine was so dirty it was very off putting, hot water for tea was a pump flask which didn't keep the water very hot.
The lift doors didn't look like they had been cleaned in months.
This was such a disappointment of a hotel for a Double Tree Hilton.
No aircon, very hot room. We asked to change rooms due to the heat but staff did not welcome this. Staff told us there was a crash in the system, we were forced to stay in an overheated room.
I stayed there two awful nights and it was a pit. They advertise air condition, but only a few rooms had it; we had several other rooms in my party and about a third of them had air conditioning, but in several of those rooms it leaked all over and got the carpet soggy or did not work. The WIFI was iffy, I had none in my room. I had a handicapped bathroom, and as soon as I walked in, I noticed the Luxery Vinyl Plank floor was buckled, soft and spongey, indicating it had been soaking wet many times and probably had bad mold. The bathroom lights operated by a motion sensor by the door; if the sensor was not continually activated, the light turned off, so it turned off on me while in the shower. My showers were very short, too, because there was NO HOT WATER even after it had been "looked at" by maintenance twice. The shower curtain was 14" off the floor, so in taking a shower one could not help but get the floor soaked. Anyone with a screwdriver could have lowered the shower curtain rod to keep the floor dry, but I guess that was too much trouble. My friends' rooms had no hot water either and they all complained about dirty carpets. The bedroom carpet was filthy and smelled musty, probably because it got wet from the bathroom. Hotels there have windows that don't open more than 4" so kids don't fall out so it was very hot. An outdoor smoking section was right below my window, so the smoke drifted into my room. The staff tried and were very professional, but it obvious this property is NOT being maintained. Honestly, I've stayed in 2-star motels in the middle of nowhere that were cleaner and better maintained. I am surprised Hilton has their name on it. The only good thing about it was the location in the historic section of York. I guess tour companies keep them alive.
Initially we arrived, and having asked for q quiet room were assigned room 62. Arrived at room - to be greeted with black mould all over grout/windowsill and shower trim. Not very good considering the cost.
We went back to reception - who were more than lovely - and they assigned us a different room immediately. 86. It was so much cleaner - although still a 'foisty' smell in the bathroom. It also had steep stairs to access it.
Breakfast was ok. Small selection compared to other DoubleTrees we've stayed in. I think that it was a bit slow to replenish eggs as well. Coffee machine splutters hot water at you and is set too close to the edge of the bench.
Probably wouldn't stay again unless refurbed- as much nicer places around locally.
In a lovely position , so convenient and close to everything . We have been here several times and wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
Would prefer it if it wasn’t dog friendly. Wasn’t keen on being woken up by a dog in the middle of the night.
Friendly staff the cleaning was of a very good standard
Breakfast was acceptable. However evening meal menu very limited
It was in a great location, easy to find, very clean, staff were great, breakfast was of a great choice, rooms very nice size, overall a great place to stay and would recommend it
No much space in car parking
