Pros:

Whenever I think of York, this is always the hotel that comes to mind. Its historic character, nostalgic atmosphere, and the charming archway you walk through from the car park to the hotel always remind me of scenes from a novel with hidden passageways and mysterious connections.

I stayed here around New Year’s last year, and this time I returned to York for a summer shopping trip. Once again, I chose this hotel because it has some of the friendliest and most welcoming staff I’ve ever met.

This was my third stay, and once again everything was excellent. I left just as satisfied as on my previous visits. If I return to York in the future, I already know exactly where I’ll be staying.

A shadow of what it was.
Pros:

Have stayed here three times before so knew what to expect.

Breakfast is good but the service very slow - even at 0730 when service starts. I'd had cereal, coffee and toast and was leaving before I was asked if I wanted anything cooked. The breakfast is good but the service is understaffed.

The restaurant is now closed - for me a real negative - I was told on checking in. Asked for a booking at the pub across the road but that was not made.

Cons:

I don't want to have to pay for taxis into York centre or be tied to the pub, good food but very busy and noisy.

Perfect location and facilities for our needs.
Pros:

Breakfast was very good. We had plenty of fans in the room to help keep cool. The iron and ironing board were very useful. The location is the main reason for our choice.

Cons:

Our room was up 2 flights of stairs. The second is quite narrow. The member of staff did offer to carry our bags up though but we declined.

A bit of character and great location.
Pros:

The hotel has character. Its an attractive 18th century building. All the rooms are different so makes a pleadant change from bland, corporate offerings. Decent breakfast.

Cons:

The bathrooms could do with some renovation.

Pleasant and convenient
Pros:

Good location, well presented hotel with a mix of old and new, nice bar area

Cons:

The additional £15 charge for the car park - should this not be included for guests! Old section of hotel quite creaky with other guests moving about at night

Easy and comfortable place to stay especially if you are heading South.
Pros:

Old world charm. Comfy bed.

Cons:

The cost of the parking. On your website says there is parking which you assume is free as no cost mentioned.
