Charming and unique hotel, offering a comfortable stay and a great base for exploring York.
Pros:

I loved the uniqueness of the hotel - it felt like stepping back in time in a wonderful way. The decor is very classic and traditional, no two rooms are the same. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
The rooms are comfortable and clean. They are equipped with an iron, hairdryer, tea & coffee facilities. The bathroom was clean with a great shower and a bath, shower gel is provided and towels were replaced daily.
Breakfast was included with our stay and the options were fantastic. You could order from the menu anything from a full breakfast to scrambled eggs on toast or help yourself to the continental choices such as fruit, cereal, yogurts and pastries. They were also able to cater a selection of choices for a member of our group who is gluten intolerant.
The hotel is located about 1.6 miles from the city so a 35 minute walk - the walk itself is along a straight road so very direct or you could choose the scenic route along the river which took slightly longer. Alternatively, if you didn't want to walk, the bus stop is located directly opposite the hotel and the buses run every 10 minutes.

Cons:

The parking charge was unexpected, and not clear at the time of booking through booking.com. On arrival, we were told that there was a charge of £15 per night - as we stayed for multiple nights, this was an unexpected additional cost. Suggestion would be that a discount is offered for multiple nights stay.
They do offer a parking discount for Blue Badge holders.
