My second time staying in this ryokan and it is still just as awesome as the first stay. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The room is clean and well- stocked with amenities. You will get to choose how you want room cleaning services. I chose no daily cleaning but requested towel change daily for my 4 night's stay. The in-room onsen overlooking yhe forest is lovely. There are 2 beautifully landscaped outdoor onsens and 2 indoor private tubs for use by the whole hotel. First come first serve basis, 30min each use. The lady and men 汤 have super hot saunas and superb hot tubs. I highly recommend sauna & a cold dip n then go sit in that 42deg tub for total relaxation! Meals were substantial. Very filling and very pleasing to the eyes. The service is impeccable, as always.
Hotel is very close to the bus station where you may buy tickets to Kamikochi at a fairly cheap price. The ride to beautiful Kamikochi is only 30min. There is a day-use onsen facility with foodcourt near the bus station too but unfortunately it was close during the time I went.
Although the meals were very filling, i felt extremely thirstafter every meal due to the extreme saltiness of some of the dishes, particularly the hida beef in red miso paste and the miso soup every morning. Dinner is served in the restaurant and the smoke from the grill at every table can be a bit too overwhelming and choking. Some guests do not know how to cook the meats and literally set the fatty beef in flames, making the air even more unbearable. So you go for your shower and soak, sit down to eat smelling all fresh, then at the end of the meal, you smell like a charred human. They do provide a linen freshener spray outside of the restaurant but that will not be of much help.
Nothing against families with kids, but this time there seems to be SO MANY very loud and noisy families. Previously, I was told the hotel do not allow families with children to keep the hotel quiet, but that seemed to have changed. The noise was more due to parents not teaching their kids ryokan etiquette at the lobby and restaurant. It was a pity, because the peace of the environment was greatly reduced.
Food could be better. Throughout the four days, i was constantly thristy after meals, had abdominal bloating and was somewhat constipated. The desserts after the dinners were also very disappointing. From day to day, the menu seem to be a repeat of the day before and got boring.
This is the mointains so...... always beware of bears.
The onsen
The hotel is very traditional very simple
I didn’t like the breakfast because it was only Japanis food options
wonderful onsen experience, with a traditional touch
we used the bath in our room, the private and the public baths and all were incredible
the location was splendid and the views from the restaurant stunning
one of the most relaxing stays ever
dinner options were a bit limited
the corridors were very long and we kept getting lost!
Lovely traditional decor. Our room was large and comfortable, the staff were friendly and the facilities were excellent
Fonctionnel
envirronnement
