Everything well recommend it
I actually like everything about the hotel, location staff and rooms are good, however we had a nightmare and eventually didn’t stay and got stranded in London and had to sleep on a bench in Victoria.
First time I’ve done that in forty years since my 20’s, but we made light of it and had fun.
See why I didn’t like it below for more details.
If you’ve read the above here’s what happened. It had been the hottest days of the year into the high 30s, the hotels aircon had failed and instead of telling us they closed all blind and windows on a southwest facing room which absorbed all the heat, probably 40 degrees C.
We returned from a great Hyde Park concert to this 😩😡🤭😂😂
It was impossible to stay in the room for more than 5 minutes before you felt like you’d been in a hot shower, so we left after speaking to the staff.
Saving grace, there was no manager on duty but the head concierge and desk manager tried to help, but they were unable to arrange a room elsewhere in London, we were refunded in full and we left to fend for ourselves.
We have stayed here many times and will return again as it’s a great position for the tube and Barbican, the staff are good and generally good value for money, just please if it happens again let us know the aircon is not working and we can arrange to make our way home and not have to repeat our vagrant experience.
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE
Please do enjoy your stay
Location
Slipped in the shower as no bath Matt present damaging my ribs. Used the iron and this ruined a brand new expensive top. Woke up at 06:30 by a crazy alarm with no explanation
Alles in allem war es sehr gut. Das Personal immer sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Location
AC’s NOT working during a massive heatwave last wwwk of
June . They promised
To change our room but never happened. Offered compensation on the form of
Half the cost of
Stay instead
Crowded and hot
No aircon but manager did reduce the price of our stay so we are not complaining.
Der Empfang
Service Personal beim Frühstück ausgesprochen nett (insbesondere Fr. Oniyana Opiyana)
Miserable Zimmerqualität, insbesondere Erstzimmer ohne (!) Fenster.
Innenhof privat vermietet und 3 Veranstaltungen während der Woche.. very noisy.
No se corresponde a un 5 estrellas
Ambience- nice a quiet part of London- attention to detail
Housekeeping was late - this was the first time being late on our stays
Nothing
We moved hotel and was relocated to their sister company as the aircon was broken. When we arrived, despite having paid for a Club room, there was no club lounge as before. We were moved to 3 different rooms whist we were there for 2 nights dues to the aircon being faulty and TV not working. Overal this was a very unplesant experience.
Handy for The Barbican
Noisy breakfast room. There should be a ban on people yapping loudly on mobile phones.
A lot when we stayed there last year not this time
The hotel ac was broken a faulty fan was provided breakfast was not as advertised sat in a meeting room with no service at all
Staff: their helpful, happy and engaging manner made up for the shortfalls.
Quirky layout of the hotel and floors, took a while to grasp - seems some guests don't like that!
Breakfast had a good choice (hot & cold meats, smoked salmon, salami, cheeses, fresh pastries, salad, fruit and cereals) and was topped up frequently, was very busy at the weekends though so queues for hot drinks. During the week it was much calmer and relaxed.
The Club lounge was a nice bonus extra, very helpful lady in there. During the week they have a pianist in the lounge, good place for some quiet relaxation.
The shower and bath in the Club room we had were excellent, plenty of room and decent water pressure. The window into the bedroom was another quirky feature, there was a blind though.
Bed was very comfortable with a choice of pillows. The air con really helped, being quiet.
The weekend check in was chaotic, too many people at the same and some other, behind the scenes, issues didn't help. After an hour wait we managed to grab a staff member who sorted out complimentary drinks, and then ten minutes later had a room for us and an upgrade to Club Lounge as way of apology, gentleman carried our baggage to the room as well! This was our first encounter with the positive attitude the staff had.
The hotel bar didn't appear to open at the weekend but you have the Jugged Hare attached to the hotel (contains a taxidermy collection) and also serves food, the staff are quick to recommend alternatives or restaurants.
Some room (503) snaggits to address: a bulb in the bathroom needs replacing, loose floor tile by the sink, one bedside dimmer switch has been broken and so doesn't work the main room lights, drawers that fight back (opening the drawers takes some strength, a bit like Arkwright's cash till!)
Many things... easily found, central location near 2 tubes... ideal for Barbican. Big old place, but doesn't feels so. In famous old Whitbread offices on Chiswell St. Rooms are plush, lots of niceties, bedncomfy, shower great, little fridge... Breakfast is bountiful...staff, amazingly friendly and welcoming...
The pub attached ... is great, but a little too much of the heads of live animals maybe for today's marketplace!? I had no issue, my wife felt a little freaked by it ha ha.
Be aware, breakfast is very busy, but works...
great, warm and confortable interior design; fab breakfast; excellent location at the core of London; great attention to detail! Professional and attentive staff.
Nothing
Got to the property at 3pm room wasn't ready until 5pm when I got in the room the TV and air-conditioning didn't work i reported this and the manager told me that the air-conditioning was broke throughout the hotel unfortunately the room didn't have an opening window so I couldn't breathe all night and they took a £50 deposit which hasn't been refunded
