Staying up.
Pros:

Friendly staff comfortable bed, good location within walking distance of pubs, restaurants shops and tube stations.

Cons:

Long queue for breakfast, 30 minutes on first day.. Then when we finally got a table, there were no plates or mugs available for the buffet breakfast. We prepaid for our breakfast which was a mistake, there was always something unavailable, bacon or tomatoes for example. Also, if you wanted something lighter like eggs benedict or royale, there was a surcharge ,so don't prepay, pay as you go. It was obvious that they had crammed too many tables into the dining room, because on our last day they showed us to a table for two with about 12 inches gap between two other tables with one of the chairs against a partition making it impossible for any person to access it without disturbing fellow diners. This being our checkout day and from our previous breakfast experiences we gave breakfast a miss that day. There are many eateries within walking distance of the hotel so that would have been a better option in hindsight.

Pros:

Hot
Pros:

Location, the cleanliness and the very nice staff

Cons:

Sadly the air-conditioning was broken and the room was stiflingly hot when we spoke to reception. Eventually they found us a fan but it was too loud to leave on overnight and unfortunately this did rather overshadow our stay

Excellent for staying near the Barbican, but could benefit from renovation and improved cleaning
Pros:

The Montcalm at the Brewery was the perfect location to attend an event at The Barbican, just 1 minute walking. It had a few pleasant extras like kettle, tea, coffee, water, some cookies, chips and prosecco. Air conditioning was very useful for the heatwave of these days. Breakfast was good and with plenty of choices.

Cons:

The hotel is quite old and could benefit from some renovation. The mattress was extremely soft and the cleaning could also be better, specially the floor carpet, chair and decorative pillows, they looked dirty. I also didn't like the smell of the shower gel and shampoo, they had a very strong 'men scent'. I've seen this hotel rated as a 5 star, but in my opinion this is a 3 to 4 star hotel maximum, not 5 stars for sure. Anyway, for the price and convenience I'd stay here again.

Beautiful hotel very comfortable in the heart of London
Pros:

Great room and location, lovely staff and hotel, very helpful

Cons:

The Brewery was closed and the lounge bar was only open 4-8pm so you were a bit restricted on having a drink in the hotel bar if you had evening plans but there is a pub right next door so it wasn’t a problem really.
