Pros:

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. John et son équipe ont été tres attentifs a rendre notre séjour le plus agréable possible. la localisation est ideale a proximité directe du vieux quartier de Hanoi dans un ruelle tres calme. nous avions une chambre qui donnait sur la cathédrale. Le buffet du petit déjeuner était tres copieux tous les matins. Attention, nous avons été surpris de ne pas trouver de piscine dans l'hôtel comme peut le laisser croire l’annonce, mais il a suffit de demander a la réception qui nous a expliqué que la piscine se situait dans un autre établissement a 5min a pieds. Un membre du personnel nous y a conduit et nous avons ainsi pu profiter de la soirée a la piscine en terrasse.

No Pool or Gym - not like the photos
Pros:

The street it is located on does not allow vehicles, only bikes on it, so it feels much safer to walk out of the hotel.
Hotel allowed us to check in early.

Cons:

Splendid Star Grand Hotel does not have a pool or gym. These are located at a sister hotel approximately 10minutes walk away. Not ideal when you have booked a hotel for the purpose of a pool and have to be separated from family if they want to go for a swim. Also walking along the busy streets back and forth to use a pool is not what a holiday is all about.
None of this was told in any advertising or confirmation with the hotel.
When asked about this, we were moved to the other hotel - Solis Hanoi. Regarded as a 5 star hotel.


Prior to moving we spent one night at the Splendid.
I had pre-arranged a airport transfer through the hotel. We waited over 35minutes for our driver at the designated pick up point.
I contacted to hotel who said he was on his way and that he had just gone to a toilet break. This was total lie. The driver turned up 20 minutes after I contacted the hotel and when we got in the car he asked "what hotel?" And asked me to show him on the map, even stopping 15minutes into the drive to reconfirm the address.

When we arrived we were served drinks and fruit which was a nice touch, but it comes with a presentation about extra services the hotel can offer. We were asked many probing questions about our onward plans and shown a booklet with tour options for selection to be made by the hotel.
An uncomfortable process, especially after flights, being tired and just wanting to get into your room. It feels like a sales pitch and you just say whatever you can to make it stop. Its all completed with manners, but all that needs to be said is "we also offer a tour service here, so if you have any questions about tours or travelling around Vietnam, please come to the travel desk and we would be happy to assist with your plans".

Splendid grand also is made up of multiple buildings and we were given a room in one that has no elevator, so it was an extremely hot and steep walk up the levels each time we came to and from our room.
