I have stayed at City Express by Marriott Nogales for more than a year, and this is actually my first review. The staff knows me well because I have been a regular guest for a long time.
First, I want to thank every member of the staff. They have always been kind, professional, and willing to help. This review is not about the employees. They continue to do an excellent job. My comments are only about the recent management decisions and the hotel's new layout.
The hotel has always been one of my favorite places to stay in Nogales. It is clean, safe, offers a large parking area, serves breakfast until 11:00 AM (which is a great advantage), and has always provided a comfortable experience for business travelers.
One of the things I appreciated most was having complimentary coffee and drinking water available throughout the day inside the hotel. It was a thoughtful convenience that made long stays even more enjoyable.
Despite my concerns below, I still enjoy staying here because of the wonderful staff, the cleanliness, the safety, and the overall quality of the hotel. I truly want this hotel to continue being one of the best places to stay in Nogales because I have enjoyed staying here for more than a year.
However, after the hotel reopened on August 1, 2026, I was disappointed by the renovation.
The lobby became much smaller. The previous open lobby made the hotel feel like a modern Marriott property. Now a wall has been added, making the entrance feel narrow and more like a small motel than a City Express by Marriott. It lost the spacious and welcoming feeling that it used to have.
Moving the breakfast area to a separate building was a mistake. Breakfast used to be inside the main hotel, just steps away from the guest rooms. Now guests must walk approximately 80–100 meters across the parking lot.
Nogales often has very hot weather, especially during the summer, and it also experiences frequent heavy rain during the rainy season. Walking that distance in extreme heat or during a rainstorm is simply inconvenient. There is no covered walkway to protect guests from the sun or the rain.
Breakfast should be one of the easiest parts of the guest experience. Many guests simply come downstairs in comfortable clothes, have breakfast, and then return to their room. Separating it from the hotel building makes the experience much less convenient.
Since the coffee and drinking water were moved with the breakfast area, they are no longer as convenient or easily accessible for guests.
If additional space inside the hotel was really needed, I believe it would have made much more sense to move the meeting room to the separate building and keep breakfast inside the main hotel. Every guest uses the breakfast area every morning, while meeting rooms are used only occasionally.
Finally, I believe a swimming pool would have been a much better investment. The hotel has a very large parking area and plenty of available space. Instead of reducing the lobby and relocating breakfast, I believe building a swimming pool would make this property much more competitive. There are very few hotels in Nogales with a good swimming pool, and this could become a major advantage for City Express by

El servicio de recepción no fue el más grato, el personal es un poco grosero, parece que les pides un favor para todo.
