Best Western Thurrock Hotel

Unfortunately, there were several issues with our stay. When we arrived on Friday, the electrics to the entire bathroom were not working. The electrical system had tripped, which meant there was no light in the bathroom at all and no lighting to the bathroom mirror. The only other mirror in the bedroom was fixed in position and nowhere near suitable lighting, so getting ready was extremely difficult.

We reported the problem before going out on Friday evening, but it was still not working when we returned that night and was not repaired until Saturday morning. We were told the electrical unit needed to be taken apart to repair it, which also affected our plans for Saturday. We had intended to return to our room after breakfast and relax for a while before going out, but instead got ourselves ready and left earlier so the repair could be carried out.

There was also a problem with the shower. The temperature control could barely be adjusted, so the only real choice seemed to be between very hot and scalding hot. It was extremely difficult to get the shower to a comfortable temperature.

Breakfast was also disappointing. On Saturday we went down with around 40 minutes of breakfast service still remaining, but there was hardly anything available. What food was there was cold, including some rather anaemic-looking sausages, and we had to ask for several items to be replenished. Staff were helpful when asked and did bring more food out.

We went down earlier on Sunday and there was more food available, although we still had to ask for some items to be topped up. On both mornings there were no china cups available for tea or coffee, only paper cups. I actually preferred to wait until I returned to the room to have a cup of tea rather than drink it from a paper cup, which was disappointing for a hotel breakfast.

The corridor outside our room also smelled strongly of cigarette smoke despite the hotel being non-smoking.

The room is a bit smelling and the floor is very noisy each time you are walking around the room wish is very annoying, honestly the room needs renovation all over.

Bathroom and curtains were dated

The fact I was up itching through night, didn’t think much of it in till I got home after a 5 hour drive, I had been bitten not once a lot!!! 🙈

I am extremely disappointed with my stay at your hotel and feel that the standard of service and accommodation provided was completely unacceptable.

The condition of the rooms was particularly concerning. The room had an awful smell, was not properly clean, and did not feel like a comfortable or hygienic environment to stay in. This is not the standard I would expect from a hotel, especially considering what I paid for my stay.

Furthermore, the lights in the corridors were not working. This is not only inconvenient but also raises serious concerns regarding the safety of guests. Having poorly lit or completely dark corridors is unacceptable and, quite frankly, does not appear to meet reasonable health and safety standards.

The breakfast was also extremely disappointing. It was advertised as a buffet, yet the experience provided was nowhere near what I would consider a proper buffet breakfast. The quality and overall offering were very poor and did not meet the expectations created when booking the hotel.

Overall, I had a terrible experience and did not enjoy my stay whatsoever. The cleanliness, smell, facilities, safety concerns and breakfast were all significantly below an acceptable standard.

I would like this complaint to be taken seriously and would appreciate a response explaining how these issues are being addressed. Given the poor standard of my stay, I would also like you to consider appropriate compensation or a partial refund.

The hotel in general very outdated rundown hotel

I mistakenly thought that Best Western was at a higher level than other chain/motel type hotels. Alas not. They would probably be better demolishing this place, with its creaky floors, paper-thin walls, smelly bathroom, and starting again.

Mosquitoes were horrible. The mosquito plugs didn’t help. Unpleasant smell in the rooms.
