Good hotel overall.

Hotel Karl in Lucerne is LOVELY

Dormitory, not a boutique hotel

Location is good

Cons:

The place feels more like a dormitory than a boutique hotel. Considering the very high price, you get little more than a basic, outdated room.

The biggest issue is that there is no air conditioning, and the room feels like a sauna at night, making it very uncomfortable to sleep. The staff are not particularly welcoming, and when we asked for something that wasn’t already in the room (in our case, a knife), we were told they were not allowed to provide any additional items instead of trying to help.

The lack of a refrigerator also makes staying with children difficult, as there is nowhere to store milk, yogurt, or other perishables.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, especially given the exorbitant price we paid. Charging such high rates while offering such basic, low-quality accommodation gives the impression that the owners are focused on maximizing revenue rather than providing a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Good stay in a great location.
Pros:

Great location with lovely views of the river. Breakfast was included and was delicious.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the hotel is not air conditioned and Switzerland was experiencing a heat wave. The rooms were uncomfortably warm in the afternoon. The hotel did supply fans which managed to circulate the hot air.

We would stay here again!
Pros:

The breakfast was fantastic! There was fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, juices, eggs, sausages and a coffee machine. Everyone in our group of 7 were satisfied with breakfast. The rooms facing the river are so peaceful and have everything you need. The staff were extremely helpful when we asked about booking a ferry and the cleaning staff were so friendly. This was our favorite hotel on our 2 week vacation throughout Europe.
