Dear Staff and Prospective Guests,
Our (3)-person family stayed at Hotel Klettur for (3) nights when we first arrived in Reykjavik, then returned from a (5)-day road trip and stayed there again for (2) more nights.
We simply loved it here!
The staff were all engaged, friendly, and creatively accommodating with our requests, even as they managed a fully-occupied hotel.
We witnessed them skillfully, graciously, and emphatically attend to all guests’ needs — speaking a wide variety of languages — always responding effectively with a generous and thoughtful warmth.
They went out of their ways for our family several times with very human, life-giving, and gracious “extra touches” — they truly made Hotel Klettur feel like a “home away from home.”
During our self-driven tour of Iceland we stayed at (4) other lovely hotels or guest houses — and — Hotel Klettur was our family’s clear and unanimous favorite.
We all looked forward to returning to our new friends at Hotel Klettur — who had very thoughtfully and generously managed to get us back into our favorite room — it felt very much like coming home.
After (5) long days “on the road,” coming back here was a sweet relief.
Aside from the useful hospitality of services like parking and luggage storage, the Hotel’s breakfast is worth a special mention.
There really is a beautifully prepared and artfully presented version of something for everyone for the day’s first meal. Do NOT miss their breakfast, from 7:00-10:00am.
We have no way to know if/when we may return to Reykjavík — I do know that if we return I’ll want to be at Hotel Klettur.
Thank you very much!
Appreciatively,
Eric Swanson

The property has basically everything you want, a good breakfast, comfortable accommodations, clean rooms, a staffed and helpful front desk, and if you want…drinks/ snacks. There’s also a few places just down the street to get food and drinks/bars aren’t too far away either.
Blackout curtains don’t work that well, the luggage holder only holds a very small luggage, and the rooms are fairly small too.

We spent five nights at hotel Klettur in and found it comfortable and well located. It is within easy walking distance - about 10-15 minutes from central Reykjavik. We had a superior room on the 6th floor which as very comfortable and reasonably sized for European hotels, a nice bathroom, closet, and safe. We even had a small balcony which was nice as indoor spaces get pretty hot in Iceland - all that thermal heat in the ground - I think. The breakfast was wonderful, fresh and plentiful. Lots of fresh fruit, eggs, etc. It was a great way to start the day.
The reception staff were great. Snead, Alex and others whose name I can't recall, were professional and very helpful. Big thanks to them all.
the only negative I have to note is that unfortunately couple of our pillows were lumpy and useless and the sheets and towels were threadbare and rough. It would be a great improvement to upgrade these items and make the room really comfortable. I'd have given the hotel a 5 were it not for this issue which was annoying.
We were there for a one night stopover and it was fine. I would have liked it if it had a fridge but fewer and fewer hotels do these days. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great.
A very clean and nice, simple, well equipped, friendly place to stay.
This has to be one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed at. The staff at the front desk was very rude when we arrived & not helpful at all. Our room was what you would call very basic. The first thing I noticed was the bed which was 2 twin beds put together & a comforter on each side of the bed that looked like a sleeping bag. No top sheet on the bed or blanket. No thermostat to regulate temperature or fan in the room. No decorations on the walls whatsoever. Old floors that varnish had come off of. A tv the size of a laptop & no american speaking channels. Bathroom had a very small sink, no storage & very small shower with old tiles, looked like from the 50s. Walls are very thin, you can hear everything, noise from street was bad too. The only positive point to the hotel is location & a breakfast that was just ok. Parking is not free & the lot is like a dungeon under the building. There is some street parking but, good luck getting a spot. Very disappointed to say the least.
Stayed here 2 nights on organized tour.
I stayed in multiple hotels during my trip & this was my favorite one!
Positives:
-Bright, spacious, clean rooms.
-short work to city center, many restaurants (including a food hall) & stores nearby. It took me 15 minutes to walk to Hallgrimskirja
-Only hotel during my stay that had a mini fridge in room (that was a much welcomed surprise)
-bigger closest, with safe, ironing board & addition storage space.
-good size bathroom w/counter space
-shower set up that did NOT get water all
over floor.
-large breakfast dining area. Continental & also hot option of eggs, sausage & beans.
-in lobby is small bar, an array of snacks/beverages to buy (very convenient) & also small souvenirs. I was able to get post-cards, stamps & the hotel will mail them out. I really appreciated them doing that for guest.
The only downside for me personally, was the low quality bedding. I found it to be very rough.
We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The location was convenient, the room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Check-in was smooth, and the overall atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. A great place to stay for a short trip or vacation
