We went here for Afternoon Tea, it was very bad. I have given a score of 2/5 because the staff were lovely.
When we arrived they didn't have our booking, after about 25mins of them flapping about they finally decided I had actually booked and they found my deposit payment.
They gave us a complimentary glass of Prosecco, so things were looking up, but sadly the food then arrived.
Dry tasteless sandwiches, only 3 fingers per person, obviously these had been speedily defrosted. 2 small scones each, with enough cream to maybe cover one scone, cheap jam. The cakes, well, if I were at my Granny's house I'd be happy with but, a slice of Jamaica Ginger cake cut into 2, 2 Mr Kipling country slices, 2 corners of chocolate brownie (so obviously from Tesco) and 2 tasteless Panacotta. I have added photos of what we expected and what we actually received. The staff were very nice. At £24 a head I expect much more for my money.
Our room was for wheel chair users so the sink was really small and low and the toilet high. I think it would have been better in a standard room. The view out of the window was of a brick wall, this could have been improved with some planting.
The car parking is expensive I guess you want to stop none residents using it but for residents it should be free. The old part of the house had been made too modern.
Nice staff and great location
Wine and cocktail selection
Very friendly staff. Large, Comfortable rooms with excellent showers, strong Wi-fi and tea/coffee making facilities provided.
Excellent buffet breakfast with lots of hot & cold dishes. They also do good quality dinners & there is a decent choice of drinks available at reasonable prices.
Car parking at the hotel is available at £10 per night. Unfortunately, we were charged £20 for 2nights even though we didn’t have a car and arrived in Salisbury by train. However, they did refund this after I had told them about their mistake.
Room was very nice
Paying £10 to park as a hotel guest - didn't realise that until we arrived, but was discounted for guests which was good:-) Would definitely stay again, good location and a short wander into Salisbury town centre or along the river.
A short walk from the centre, well presented throughout, room clean and large double bed very comfortable, big walk in shower lots of towels and nice toiletries, window opens which is good as I like fresh air, green outside and lovely Dawn chorus in morning.
Included breakfast which was delicious, pastries, fruit, cereal, also cooked breakfast. Victoria was efficient and helped us with coffee machine, everything well organised. Professional and approachable staff.
Thank you to the team for a great stay.
Just got back from an overnight stay with friends at Milford Hall. Really enjoyed the refurbishment that has taken place there since we last visited.. the lounge and bar area look beautiful and the general appearance and cleanliness throughout the hotel was excellent.
The staff couldn’t do enough for you. At one point I even saw a member of staff literally running to the reception desk to make sure that they were there to help
Victoria in the restaurant was exceptional, making sure that everybody’s needs were catered for and going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience.
Comfortable twin room with really nice mattress, duvet and comfortable pillows.
Breakfast was pleasant and had everything you would expect.
Definitely will be returning.
Original building has character and was tastefully restored.
Rooms in new block were modern, freshly decorated and spotlessly clean.
Good choice of things for breakfast.
Location is good for station and close to town centre.
One very minor criticism which won’t stop us returning:
We would have preferred a softer mattress - ours was very firm.
Location is perfect for our needs and the rooms are nicely refurbished.
The bedding consisted of a heavy winter quilt. We asked for a sheet and light blanket and they found only one (we had 2 rooms booked) so in my daughter’s room they gave her what I think was a mattress topper which was an improvement but still too hot for her. Also breakfast is now a buffet where it used to be cooked to order and there was a very poor selection of cereal with no muesli or any high fibre choices. All were high sugar, low fibre. Also chunks of melon which is not suitable for eating with cereal.
Very tidy and well presented, welcoming with first class breakfast.
Needs a couple of coat hooks in bedroom 209 for outside coats; wardrobe not adequate;
Of Late I have been regularly staying at this hotel, and it exceeded expectations in every way. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with genuine warmth and professionalism, the kind of service that instantly makes you feel valued rather than just another guest.
The room was immaculate, thoughtfully designed, and extremely comfortable. The bed was superb, ensuring a good night’s sleep, while the attention to detail, from the quality of the linens (Towels are so soft) to the well-appointed amenities—really stood out. Everything feels fresh, modern, and well maintained. TV could do with an update but that me being picky.
The staff are undoubtedly the highlight. Every interaction is friendly, efficient, and delivered with a smile. Nothing was ever too much trouble, whether it was answering a quick question or going the extra mile to ensure my stay was seamless.
Breakfast is good but there is room for improvement (Again a personal view), plenty of choice, great quality produce, and constantly replenished. The overall atmosphere throughout the hotel was calm, welcoming, and well managed.
What truly sets this place apart is the consistency: great service, comfortable surroundings, and a genuine focus on guest experience. It’s clear that the team takes pride in what they do.
I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality hotel experience.
Staff always very helpful. Breakfast buffet was continually topped up with fresh food, not left to dry out as is so often the case.
Beware Booking.com which has you believe there is a spar and gym which no longer exists. The hotel website gives correct information but most third party websites have not been updated
Conveniently situated just a 5/10 minute walk from the city. Lovely, helpful staff. Spotlessly clean.
Happy with everything
I love Salisbury. I've lived here on and off since 1993 and as of recently will be visiting for work reasons much more frequently. To that end, it's always a bit of a conundrum when it comes to choosing a hotel to stay at during the week - let me assure anyone reading this, if you fancy a home from home then choose this place.
It's not perfect by any means - there's the well-known air conditioning issue. But this is to do with residents nearby complaining about the noise of the condenser fans kicking in and out - and therefore I believe IHG are currently looking at quieter units to comply with local residents' wishes.
There's also breakfast which can be hit & miss - for example when we stayed 8/9th April there was a power cut which led to them bringing it out late - and as we're expected to be at meetings we didn't have much time but it wasn't the end of the world. Moreover, most days it is buffet-style, but I was caught out on the Friday morning as they'd switched to an order service - which along with checking out, I simply didn't have time for. Again, not the end of the world but it would have been nice to have been warned off so I could plan around it.
One thing that puzzles me about some of the negative reviews on here - it often seems just one thing (such as stale sandwiches) can result in an overall poor score and I cannot help thinking, did the person writing the review approach the staff at all to give them a chance to put things right? I doubt it. If they had, they'd have realised the staff who work here are absolutely top-notch. Friendly, approachable - full of great advice on where to visit around the area, from dining to tourism. And they'll do anything they can to assist you.
For example, after my first stay early April, I wrote an email to reception advising them of a couple of issues I had during my stay - and when I returned on 27 April, I was allocated a much quieter room and had a great week at the place.
On the first night I chose to eat on Site at the restaurant and flippantly chose the first thing on the menu - buttermilk chick sandwich. HOLY MOLY it only turned out to be the best I'd ever had in my life - so much so I ended up eating the same meal for the rest of the week (aside from Weds evening when we went to the Tinga Mexican place on the High Street - which is also fantastic, by the way). Other colleagues of mine have reported similar with other dishes throughout their stays too. Hats off to the chef ;-)
The rooms are exceptionally clean, albeit the walls are thin. We had an elderly residents' tour turn up on my first night there (one of which were having a right old moan about their fixed menu choices - can't please everyone I guess) - and one of the old boys had his TV on in the room next door, incredibly loud. It made me giggle as I said to my partner on the phone at the time, it's not an issue as he'll probably be asleep much earlier than I. Sure enough, he was.
We also had a group of Americans turn up on another tour who were great fun - it seems everyone who strolls through here immediately takes on the friendly vibe which promulgates around the place.
The old building is stunning throughout. I do love the décor and how it's been exceptionally finished with that modern chic but not at the expense of the character of the place.
I mentioned the staff earlier, but they are genuinely talkative and friendly - you know how you get these corporate places where the staff are trained to just sing lines at you and smile falsely as they go through the motions? None of that here. Simon was quite an interesting guy to talk to and nothing is too much trouble for him nor the rest. The lady (sorry I will remember your name, next time!) who puts the breakfast out in the morning is very similar. You can tell their hearts are really in it and they appear to really enjoy their jobs. And it makes a huge difference.
I look forward to staying with you again throughout the year as and when our courses require us to be working there over the next 2 to 3 years.
Kind regards,
PM
Break fast was fine, I paid extra for breakfast but there was some confusion about the this, several other guests had the same problem. Location was good.
Bit more main course choice on dinner menu,
Lovely hotel - huge room and nice decor
Very helpful and friendly staff
Signage on the main road could be better as only works if you are arrive in one direction
