Categories

Cleanliness
5.5
Mixed reports: several guests praised clean, modern rooms and leisure areas, but there are multiple serious cleanliness complaints (stains, mould, filthy bathroom edges, glasses left outside, smelly spa drain and eggy stream).
Service
9
Consistently positive staff feedback: reception and multiple team members described as friendly, helpful and professional; guests repeatedly noted good service and helpfulness.
Location
8
Generally favourable: handy location with pleasant canal/field views for some rooms; some road noise reported when balcony/doors are open.
Room Quality
7
Mixed room quality: some rooms described as clean, modern and comfortable (nice views, comfy beds), while others reported small bathrooms, worn/tired decor and problematic beds with exposed springs.
Amenities
8.5
Leisure facilities are a strong point: spa, pool, jacuzzi and sauna receive high praise; however some spa areas and changing rooms were described as tired or with flaking paint and the lift failures impacted access.
Value for Money
7.5
Perceived as reasonable value by some guests (price and included breakfast noted), but issues with food quality and tired hotel areas temper the value impression for others.
Food and Beverage
6.5
Mixed to negative: continental breakfast had good choice for some, but cooked breakfast and several evening meals were criticised as greasy, lukewarm or poor quality; limited vegetarian options and occasional items out of stock.
Overall Experience
8
Overall mixed but leaning positive: many guests enjoyed the spa, pool, friendly staff and would recommend, yet several stays were spoiled by food issues, lift problems, cleanliness concerns or booking errors.

Price was very reasonable with breakfast included
Pros:

Room was clean, staff very friendly. Breakfast was very good

Cons:

Lift was broken and we were on second floor so was uncomfortable with having to go up and down stairs as I have mobility issues. Air conditioning would have been nice as there was a lot of continuous road noise when door was open

Mixed feelings
Pros:

This was an overnight stay before a stressful hospital appointment, so relaxing was the priority.
We enjoyed most of the spa time.
The beds were very comfortable.
Liked being able to open the balcony doors for some fresh air.
The continental breakfast was very good with lots of choice.
Reception staff on arrival was lovely and very helpful.

Cons:

Some areas of the spa were quite smelly (drain smell) and some areas just seemed 'tired'.
The cooked breakfast wasn't very nice...it was quite greasy, not very hot, the hash browns were not crispy at all.
The lift broke down in the evening and was still broken in the morning. We were on the second floor and I struggled because of my spinal issues, as did other, older guests.
The hotel in general looked 'tired' and unloved, sadly. There were still glasses etc on the outside table from the night before.
Dead plants/weeds everywhere....regardless of the lack of rain. It just looked uncared for in general which is not so much a complaint as a sad observation.

Disappointed, expected better. Sold as a quality place and done on the cheap
Pros:

Handy location.

Cons:

Lift wasn’t working. Room was dirty (stains on lampshades, tape on floor, mould on doorframes, bathroom filthy around edges). Evening meal was poor, skinny overcooked fish (no way was that cod! And I did ask, on the menu as non-descript fish), triple cooked chips with skins on, schoolboy mistake! Condiments from gallon jars. Breakfast reminded me of a motorway services in the 90’s, everything hot was stewed and soaked in oil and lukewarm
