Hotel has been beautifully renovated, rooms are a good size, comfortable beds
Room was not as described or pictured in the photos we stayed in the deluxe sweet but it was described on the website as over looking the Clyde which it is not, the rooms is a lot smaller than pictured as well. Also the heating was on in the room and it’s the middle of summer, none the less the room was nice.
The main issue at this hotel is the service, we were away for my partners birthday so were really looking forward to the dinner meal. We had booked dinner in the dining hall for 7pm. We ordered starters which arrived at 7.20pm which was fine, after this no one came to clear our starter plates or offer us another drink, this went on until 8.20pm, an hour after our starter arrived.
We had ordered the sharing steak for main, this did not arrive until 8.30pm, a whole 1 and a half hours after being seated and it arrived stone cold. The steak was cold as was the extra sides we ordered and the sauces, I said to the waiter and he took it away but all they done was re heat it instead of re make
It! So the medium steak was now a well
Done steak and our sides were still cold!
They asked if we wanted it heated up again but we said no we would just eat it as we were starving at this point and had plans for after dinner.
For a so called 5 star hotel to be serving cold food and simply re heating it in a microwave instead of re making is not up to standard in my opinion and was really disappointing.
Everyone was really nice and welcoming
Beautiful hotel and grounds Food delicious Staff were all lovely Had a wonderful stay & will be returning hopefully soon Highly recommended
Amazing history in the grand castle-like mansion! When we first arrived, we were put in a below grade room that faced the paved parking lot and adjacent to the front door (2 windows at shoulder level). Although it was a lovely appointed room, I was quite adamant that I hadn’t booked a basement paved parking lot view, and that we needed to be able to open up the windows to get some fresh air. (They opened a few inches at pavement level only.) We asked to be moved to a higher floor not overlooking the parking lot. They moved us to a beautiful room overlooking the gardens, where we were able to open the windows much further and capture good air. (Know there is no a/c, as in most places we stayed in Scotland.) The bed was very comfortable and room and bathroom was well appointed with robes and slippers. The pool and spa facilities are wonderful, but somewhat of an underground hike to get there in room slippers. The gym is large and well appointed and overlooked the indoor pool. My husband enjoyed playing 9 holes of golf the next morning. Although if he was to play only 9 again, he would ask to play the back nine. Much quieter to be away from the bridge traffic, and more scenic to go along the river.
The breakfast buffet included was delicious, but the dinner left a lot to be desired. Service was slow and lacking, not great selections, and we both went away still hungry.
Very dark for applying my make up
I liked everything apart from the little walk to our bedroom
Modern upgrade
Bed and some service issues
The breakfast was delicious with a great range of choices. The staff at breakfast and in the bar were brilliant. Decent pool table. Swimming pool and facilities okay.
The room was nice but located in the turret area meant it was more difficult to access. Walks around the grounds very limited. It was a bit of a wait at check-in and we had to return to reception to give them a gentle reminder that we were waiting. Some of the hotel was undergoing renovation works.
Views, quirky decor, nice pool, lovely breakfast, pool room and cinema
Staff were young and new post refurbishment, but nothing was too much and we were made to feel so welcome. The 2 Alan’s on concierge are just brilliant!
Few teething issues with breakfast wait times but will be ironed out in no time and we were compensated for it.
Great facilities and room was really good.
Despite advertising as a dog friendly hotel, they don’t actually allow dogs into any of the restaurants other than a “dog room” which was being used for a private function when we visited.
The decor is beautiful, the gardens are lovely, the staff really friendly and they are dog friendly.
The water in the shower smelt of rotten eggs.
