The New Alexandra Hotel

The stairs we traveled with a person with mobility issues and they really struggled going up as there is no lift. 35+ stairs to get to our room.
The bathroom needs a revamp the shower cubicle was not fit for human use, I am a bigger women but I wouldn’t say I was huge and getting in and been able to wash properly was a major problem!
The locks on the doors were faulty and often kept getting jammed if I needed to leave in an emergency I’m not sure that would have been possible.
No hair dryer or iron in the rooms.
Beds were very uncomfortable!
Carpets were heavily stained, with this being a dog friendly hotel I don’t think carpets are the most hygienic thing.

I was in the top floor and there are so many stairs. I came during the heat wave and theres no electric fan available. It was really hard to sleep

The state of the room and the hotel are not up to standards, both felt old, broken, ugly and not properly maintained. My shower handle was broken, my window was broken too and fixed with cheap tape. The room was not properly clean either with a few stains in the bed sheets and a dirty shower. For the amount of money they ask for the rooms, I was expecting at least to be comfortable and clean, cost quality ratio wise it was awful.

Stairs only and no lift for older people , Dirty Smelly Carpets, Dirty Reception area no where decent to relax in the facilities.

When I arrived, I was shown a room with a view of a back street. I asked about one at the front, as there had been no option to choose when I booked and I'd paid almost £100.. I was told no front rooms were available but they would let me know if that changed. I soon found the room way too noisy, as there were boy racers revving at traffic lights outside the window. I went down to reception, only to find it all locked up. A notice said it was open til 7, but this was 5.40. I tried a few times over the next few hours but it stayed locked up. I'd noticed my room door was open when I was shown in so I knocked on a front room door then tried it. It was open and made up, at 9.30 obviously nobody was staying there - same with all the other front rooms I checked, so I'd been lied to.
Overall not a good experience at all.

was allocated room 12 and had to walk up quite a few stairs because there is no lift. It’s fine if you are young and fit, but definitely not for anyone who struggles with climbing. The property is also quite old the lobby carpet had a bad smell and couldn't open the window properly. Finally, booked a double and a single bed, but received a double and a bunk bed instead.

Just walking into the hotel was already a disappointment. The cleanliness of the corridors wasn't just poor—it was appalling. It genuinely looked as though the carpets hadn't been vacuumed for years, with pet hair everywhere and dirt throughout. On one of the floors, the smell of cigarette smoke was overwhelming.
Having to climb to the top floor without a lift was exhausting, especially as someone with asthma.
At first glance, the room looked tidy, but a closer look revealed yellow stains in the bathroom, old windows covered in tape that let in constant noise throughout the night, bedding with random hairs on it, and a TV remote that didn't even work.
This morning, I politely said "thank you" and "bye" to the lady at reception, but she simply looked at me and carried on walking downstairs towards the bar without responding. Unfortunately, that reflected the overall lack of care we experienced.
We decided not to eat at the hotel's restaurant because the atmosphere and cleanliness put us off completely.
On a positive note, the café next door serves a lovely breakfast. It's clean, welcoming, and the staff are friendly and smiling.
Overall, this was a very disappointing stay, and I certainly wouldn't return or recommend this hotel.

Dirty bathroom, no cold water for the shower, window blind was broken, dirty pillow cases.

There isn't any rooms in first floor,like they say there is,quite alot of stairs. They don't know what they are doing, and the bar area isn't that clean..
