I never expected a four-star hotel to provide such a disappointing and frankly unacceptable level of service.

The most troubling part of my experience was the way I was treated by the senior male receptionist during check-in. I arrived with a heavy backpack after walking the Camino, yet no one offered to help me bring my luggage to my room. The receptionist was rude, impatient, and completely lacking in basic courtesy. What made this experience even more disturbing was what I witnessed on the day of checkout: when I returned to collect my backpack, I saw the very same receptionist helping other English-speaking guests with their luggage and personally guiding them to their rooms. He had shown me none of that consideration when I checked in.

I cannot help but question why the level of service was so different. Was I treated this way because I was an Asian guest, despite speaking fluent English? Or was it because I arrived as a genuine pilgrim carrying a large backpack rather than as a conventional tourist? I cannot claim to know the reason, but the stark contrast in treatment was impossible to ignore and left me with serious concerns about the hotel’s attitude toward its guests. To be clear, the younger male receptionist and the female staff member I encountered during checkout were helpful, and I appreciate their courtesy. However, their professionalism does not erase the unacceptable treatment I experienced at check-in.

The second issue was the hotel’s complete failure to ensure a reasonable level of peace and quiet. Guests staying in the two rooms next to mine returned shortly after midnight and made an extraordinary amount of noise for at least 30 minutes. They appeared to be travelling together, as they occupied at least two rooms. I find it difficult to understand why my room was assigned between theirs, especially if the hotel was aware that these guests were part of the same group.

I'm not a huge fan of the "attic rooms", you know the ones with the sloping ceilings and window hatches on the roof. I think that's the draw of the deck when you go through booking sites and are traveling alone. Otherwise it was fine for a night.
