Beautiful location, but unacceptable housekeeping, poor maintenance and extremely disappointing cust

The location and historical setting are beautiful and genuinely unique. Unfortunately, that was by far the best part of the stay.

Cons:

One of the milk capsules provided in the room had expired on 13 November 2025, more than eight months before our stay on 30 July 2026. The second capsule was also expired, with a date of 14 May 2026. Guests should not have to check the expiry dates of food products provided by a hotel.

The bathroom light was not working. Instead, a bedside lamp connected to an extension cable had been placed in the bathroom. This looked completely unprofessional and did not feel appropriate or safe in a bathroom environment.

We had also specifically chosen the hotel partly because of its restaurant, which is prominently advertised. Upon arrival, we discovered that it had been privatized for an event. We had received no warning beforehand.

What made the experience worse was the way the complaint was handled afterwards. I contacted the hotel regarding these issues and waited more than five weeks for a response. Their answer was essentially that they could have replaced the expired products and repaired the light if we had complained during the stay. This completely misses the point. Expired food should never have been placed in the room in the first place, and the bathroom should have been properly maintained before a guest checked in.

No compensation or meaningful gesture was offered.

Da vi kom til frokost litt før 8.30 var det flere fat som var tomme eller bare smuler igjen. Kun litt av en type brød, ikke speilegg eller bacon igjen ikke noe laks igjen på fatet
Dette ble ikke fylt på og det var ikke personale å snakke med. En kokk kom med litt eggerøre etter hvert…

Nydelige omgivelser, men skuffende drift av hotellet i høysesongen.

Nydelige og historiske omgivelser!

Cons:

Ved booking får man et par automatiske mailer med informasjon (muligens via Booking.com), men disse har ukorrekt informasjon. Man kunne feks ikke booke bord til middag i høysesongen. Vi måtte jobbe uforholdsmessig mye for å få svar på telefon eller mail da vi hadde spørsmål om bookingen/oppgraderingen. For å få sjøutsikt og kaffemaskin måtte man betale ekstra, men andre som ikke oppgraderte fikk disse tingene likevel.
Frokosten skulle vare til 10:30, men da vi kom 09:30 var de fleste fat tomme. Det var dessverre stor misnøye blant de andre besøkende også og stemningen var dårlig. Det viste seg at det kun var én person på jobb og det var tilsynelatende ganske fullt hotell. Vårt opphold svarte dessverre ikke til forventningene i det hele tatt. Vi opplevde at vi ikke fikk produktet vi hadde betalt for og ble forespeilet. Vi syntes synd på de som var på jobb. Det var ikke mulig å levere med de forutsetningene de var blitt gitt.

A very nice stay, but with some flaws.
Pros:

The location on the island in the middle of the fjord, with guided tours to learn more about the role of the fort during WW 2 is excellent! The view from the room was good, and you can go swimming in the fjord or visit the cafe etc. Good breakfast, and was able to enjoy it outside, overlooking the water.

The dinner area was really cool, loved being inside of a historic building!

Cons:

The room felt quite bland and a little bit worn down and somewhat old fashioned. The building itself was build for recruits, and it still felt a little that way.

The staff was very nice and helpful, but was not prepared for us when we arrived for the dinner we had pre-booked, so the two of us were seated at the end of a very long table all by ourselves. No major crisis, but felt a bit weird. However, the staff quickly helped us with food and drinks and were very attentive!
