The Crags Hotel

I shall try to be as gracious as the circumstances allow, for it gives me no pleasure to write a review of this nature.

Regrettably, our stay at The Crags proved one of the more challenging of an otherwise wonderful trip. The room was compact and, I’m sorry to report, had clearly not enjoyed the attentions of a thorough clean for some time—there was a visible accumulation of dust, a cobweb or two keeping company in the corners, and, memorably, a fly that had met its end against the windowpane and been permitted to remain there in perpetuity. Not, perhaps, the welcome one hopes for.

The television, alas, declined to work at all, and the bed offered rather less comfort than a weary traveller might reasonably wish for after a day in the Highlands.

I would gently encourage prospective guests to view the online photographs with a measure of healthy optimism, as I found them to paint a distinctly more flattering portrait than the reality delivered. A little investment in upkeep would go an awfully long way here—the bones of the place could be perfectly pleasant with some genuine care and attention.

I booked 2 rooms and both of us had the exact same experienced in either room.

Shower randomly turned hot then cold.
Shower handle loose in the shower.
Lots of dust in the room.
Strange set up downstairs. One of us had to walk through the restaurant to get to the room (which was weird later at night with people eating).
Had intended on having breakfast but there was absolutely no sign of anyone in the morning... very odd.

Nothing

Nothing really.

The cleanliness is awful, loads of mould in every corner and the shower.
Bedding was inside-out, smelly billows, all the carpet is stained and discussing.
Called the hotel to change the dates and they agreed because there were availability then went and requested it on Booking and they refused and not only that they told me that “I have to cancel and pay the fee and rebook and pay again” literally.

The bed was solid and not comfortable at all.

Could do with a paint job all over.

Towel in the bathroom not fresh bathroom floor needing grout repaired bath panel wrong side still has wood showing at the bottom of it
Room carpet needing a shampoo walls not soundproofed noise from other room unreal

Some time mild smell of food.

The bedrooms were very tired. We stayed three nights never got room Service in the rooms during the day you’ve got one bath towel per person. Restaurant was advertised as local Scottish produce but it was an Indian restaurant and it was very tired and expensive. Would not recommend staying here not good value for money needs a very good clean.

No regrets.
