Great location full of character lovely looking building
The hotel looked very tired all needed updating
We had a sandwich in the afternoon in the bar/bistro it was delicious, we then had evening meals which were very good also
The room was a little smaller than expected, the bathroom had a white nylon shower curtain very old world they never look clean, the liquid bottle in the shower didn’t state what it was ie shampoo, body wash etc. 1 pack of biscuits between two!
Setting is excellent and the meals were acceptable but limited in choice. Bar service was good.
The rooms were not too clean, with dated fittings and the daily room service was only available on request. The buffet breakfast was always short of supply of certain items and the selected food had to be carried through two rooms back to the table.. No fresh bread or rolls available.
The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is lovely.
However, the room was disappointing. We were given a room tucked away by the kitchen/service stairs, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Unfortunately, both of us woke up with back pain after just one night. A comfortable night’s sleep is the most important part of a hotel stay, so this had a big impact on our overall experience.
Poor self service with little staff involvement
Did not offer coffee but brought it when requested
Service
We were welcomed with our dog by friendly staff in a beautiful old building with a relaxed atmosphere and in a superb rural location. The bedroom was very comfortable and quite spacious. It was very easy to come and go on foot and enjoy the river and the local paths.
Breakfast was good but mundane in comparison with the rest of the experience.
The location
Standard of service has dropped significantly especially in the restaurant and breakfast dining room but prices have not.
Super location, and very dog friendly
It had character architecturally, good facilities such as a reading room, and a fantastic location
Nothing
Nice location
Room was a bit tired but spacious and good outlook
Lovely place within a picturesque setting, if you've not been you need to visit, we stayed for the weekend from 19th June , the hotel is a great place to have a nice relaxing break , nice decor inside with spacious rooms , we had a large room with an equally large bathroom on the first floor looking out towards the abbey, slightly difficult to see the abbey due to the trees on the boundary but the view takes in the grounds of the hotel and the river tweed . We were bed and breakfast , breakfast was nice with plenty of choice from the full breakfast , veggie breakfast, eggs Benedict and breakfast rolls, also lots of cereal, fruit and pastries.all the staff were friendly, one member of staff stood out for us as a great asset to the hotel, he was on breakfast duty on the Sunday morning , we never got his name but we saw him on Friday night in the nearby pub the dryburgh arms, so polite with all the breakfast guests.
Food in the restaurant is also great so be sure to try it. You won't regret it.
We will definitely be back in the near future.
