Wendover Arms Hotel

Poor service, no wifi, not that clean smelt of smoke and I couldnt really open the window easily

They had lost my booking, Fobbed me off with a small box room , claiming we where lucky somebody else had cancelled. no AC, window did not open and reluctantly gave me a fan from the bar.

Firstly I’ve never seen a hotel room like it. A prisoner would have a bigger cell than that. I think it’s criminal to have a room like that listed for above £85. It was 2 single beds crammed into the little room meaning that to get into the other bed you would have to scramble over the first single bed. Good job there was only 1 bed being used!

It’s extremely nice of the host to provide facilities such as a fridge and a microwave. Perhaps that’s to justify the price. However it isn’t as luxury as you would think. It’s a normal sized fridge crammed into the room.

During the stay I genuinely did wonder if they used cleaners. The state of the floors was just vile. To have wood louse scattering the floors says it all really. Id you did have a cleaner they probably have the easiest job going. Probably takes them about 30 seconds to mop the floor.

I stay away week in week out in different hotels up and down the country! And that is by far the worse room I’ve ever stayed in. My van was bigger than the room!!!!

Genuinely, if your going to advertise a room of that size please think about what your trying to cram into it.

It was a good job we only stayed for 1 night because we certainly wouldn’t have stayed another night.

Fire doors needs adjusting, every door bangs through the night, didn’t get any sleep. Fridge makes a loud noise too.

Loads of renovation works going on that we were not informed about, including loads of scaffolding as they were having a new roof. The view from our window was a skip full of building materials. Room was very bare and impersonal and not the most comfortable. We requested extra pillows that we never received. Bathroom was nice. Very disappointed to find out no food was available as the kitchen is no longer in service. It's located on a very busy road, the traffic was very loud all night, there was a drain cover loose which every car drove over which made a lot of extra noise.

No breakfast

All the fire doors in the hotel need to be reset. The door closures at the top of the door are set incorrectly as all doors bang when closing. I didn’t get any sleep. The fridge is loud when trying to sleep. No food served.

Noise, more noise, noise. Some rooms busy with the police in the them for the occupants at 4 am. It's basically a bar that has some rooms above it, as a result you're not sleeping. No a/c (expected at this price), but you can't open a window for music, people being cautioned by the police and other residents playing music to the break of dawn.

So we booked into the wendover because it was 18 mins walk away from the location we needed to be at (had a property closer, but that's a whole other story) turned up to be told they had put us into their sister hotel. This turned out to be 38 mins walk from where we needed to be. The hotel had no lift, we were on top floor, okay only 3 floors but when you're exhausted isn't helpful. Very small room, no handle on fridge, cabinet needed fixing and there was a crack that lined the whole of the window wall. Bathroom smelled funny and the shower had weird doors, that if you're tipping the scales on the slightly naughty side made it a bother to get in and out of. The light in the bathroom was also on a timer, so would turn itself off after a couple of minutes, which led to an accident in the shower for my travel companion. They were motioned sensored, but didn't pick up motion with the weird shower doors. You also couldn't leave bathroom door open, I usually leave it slightly open, so I don't wake anyone up when opening the door, because the light would pick up every movement in the bedroom. If you needed it on for someone who didn't like it completely dark, it would be a no go. It would turn itself off and you'd have to move every couple of minutes to get it to turn back on. Doors to rooms were very heavy, which I understand for fire safety, but when they're constantly slamming at all hours, not very helpful for sleep. Not hotels fault this one, but coming back from our event to find someone clearly high on something, sitting on the stoop wasn't pleasant either. The stay didn't feel very safe or enjoyable unfortunately and wouldn't like to stay here again. The only upside is the receptionist, who was very friendly, helpful and polite. So staff A+ but hotel a fail 🙁
